To Whomever can help,
I keep getting a Driver_Power_State_Failure BSOD on my laptop and it is driving me nuts. This has happen in the past and using a minidump I had a person in a previous forum site tell me it was the driver for my Atheros AR5B93 wireless adapter. I have since updated the driver and download a driver updater tool. However, now the BSOD is more frequent and I can no longer leave my computer on over night. Side note my wireless signal is never strong on this lap top any longer even though all my other devices in the house have full bars.

if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. I am attaching all the pertinent information now.

Hello rcordova19.

I would suggest you for three things.

First, Kaspersky is failing there.
Code:
fffff880`037d1908 fffff880`020d75ebUnable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\klif.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for [URL="http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=klif.sys"]klif.sys[/URL]
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for [URL="http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=klif.sys"]klif.sys[/URL]
 klif+0x245eb
Uninstall Kaspersky using Kaspersky Removal Tool. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Second, the active network connection, NETGEAR WNA1100 N150 Wireless USB Adapter's driver is very old.
Code:
fffff880`0640e000 fffff880`065eb000 athurx (deferred)
    Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\athurx.sys
[COLOR=Red]    Image name: athurx.sys
    Timestamp: Mon Oct 11 14:40:57 2010 [/COLOR](4CB2D4A1)
    CheckSum: 001D77E1
    ImageSize: 001DD000
    Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4
Update it from Welcome to NETGEAR Support.

Third, Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.
Additionally, can you uninstall Gateway Power management? Asking for it, as a Stop 0x9F is ACPI related, and if it is manipulated by a third party program, it may be crash prone.

Let us know the results.

Thank you very much for the response I have taken all four actions and am rebooting now and will update if I receive any additional BSOD or if I stop receiving them. Again thank you graciously.

Thank you so much it worked but now I have a new problem with getting onto the internet:

I am running windows 7 and just recently my internet connection is no longer working. I have tried to disable and enable the adapters. I have run virus and spyware cleaners and cleaned the computer and no luck.
I Reset TCP/IP stack to installation default: netsh int ip reset reset.log
then I ran ipconfig /renew and got the error that no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation

I then Reset WINSOCK entries to default: netsh winsock reset catalog
and got the error: the system cannot find the file specified

I replaced the Winsock regestry entery with one from another windows 7 computer I have that is operationg correctly but still get the error no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation after I ran ipconfig /renew

The protocols are set to automatically obtain an ip address.

Can you assist?

then I ran ipconfig /renew and got the error that no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation

This is normally related to an adapter not connected at all to a network. What does the icon in your system tray state? My most likely guess is a driver issue and I would strongly recommend following Arc's advice above. It should be noted that Atheros drivers can have complications with Windows 7.

Can you also follow this post so we can have appropriate information in order to better assist you. Especially the Xirrus section at the bottom to find out if other networks may be causing the issue.

I hope Josh will check your post shortly. Not a networking expert myself at all, still I may say some points on this situation.

It indicates the WiFi network. if the wireless network is working and still it is looking like that, Let us know which connection is in use.

  • NETGEAR WNA1100 N150 Wireless USB Adapter
  • Atheros AR5B93 Wireless Network Adapter
  • Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter
Disable others, keeping the in-use connection enabled only, as a test.

And,

It indicates the LAN. Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet in your case. Update it too, as suggested earlier.

Arc is correct, you are not currently connected to any wireless network, can you connect to one?

Do you receive any error messages? These can be helpful in us helping you.

I can connect to my wireless net work but only as limited access (the icon with the yellow star), so I guess not a true connection. The computer finds all the wireless networks around, I even tried to connect to my cell phone hot spot and same results
