hello forum,

i now get this BSOD since, well, quite a long time. i always thought it's a hardware defect, maybe a bad hard drive.
now it seems more to be a driver issue, i needed a new hard drive and the problem still exists.

it does not happen always, there are times when i can hibernate 12 times in a row without problems, but sometimes it happens once every day.
i get the same when switching to sleep mode.

i tried to solve it myself using windbg, but wasn't very lucky, i need a lot more experience obviously.

details about the system (older notebook) see my profile.

thanks for reading! :)

ok, i removed this software and rebooted.
but unfortunately, on the second attempt already i had this BSOD again when i wanted to hibernate the system.

so it seems there must also be some other bad driver.

thanks anyway. :)

Still seems to be a driver, but no driver is specifically referred to
Use verifier for 36 hours. Then send us the BSOD reports

Driver Verifier
I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Windows 7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because
Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Uh, the enabled Driver Verifier gave me a blue screen right when booting starts. I found 2 drivers causing this and disabled them, but then added more again to Driver Verifier, and there was the same boot prob again. Not easy to figure out...

ok, i'm back. as mentioned, with Driver Verifier enabled i got nothing but blues screens, but no mini-dumps, except for a single one!? so that didn't really help. i now installed some newer drivers for this notbeook, although not recommended by the manufacturer. and so far, it looks good! but it's maybe too early to be happy. funny thing is, i never touched the drivers since i installed this machine, and at the beginning i never had any troubles. anyway, thanks a lot for taking your time! cheers, tom
