Hi!
I just installed a Windows 7 Home Premium lisence on my computer. It works fine until I ran Windows update + installed Civilization 4. When I restarted my computer I get a BSOD right after the windows logo appears. Windows give me the start normally /repair option but neither will work. If I try to reinstall the system using the installation DVD I only get the memtest and Windows boot option (after the installation has loaded the initial files). Anyone of these (plus the options using F8) will just make my system reboot and leaving me with the same options. It is not until I boot with a linux os and restarts the system that I can actually run the installation dvd to reinstall the system. Why is that?

/John

Can you enter the computer using Safe mode?

See Safe Mode - Vista Forums For More Information

Works the same for Windows 7 also Please only enter safe mode using the Advanced boot options only (Method 1)

Many Thanks,
Josh

Nope, tried all the opetion Safe Mode, SF +Ntw, SF +cmd prompt, Restor last good conf (advance) etc. All get's BSOD with a reference to Netio.sys (but I cannot get the dump file since I cannot boot the system without installing another os first and then reinstalling windows). Or is there a way to just get a command prompt and get into access to the file system before loading the os (not a Windows expert)?

Thanks, but reinstallation is the least of my problems (based on the data I have or don't have). My main problem is to
1) Find out what causes this problem (I have reinstalled 5 time now) and the problem only occurs after I have installed all Windows Updates plus some other SW. So it would be great if there's a list with known incompatible prorams under Win 7 64-bit.
2) When I get the BSOD, there's no way to reinstall from the DVD if I do not first install another os. Windows seems to first ask me to boot from installation dvd and then after loading the installation files it ask me to boot from the existing installation and on it goes....until I clean the disk by installing another temp os. And that is alittle bit frustrating :-(

Okay Reinstall Windows 7 and make sure you format the Disk during the Process after that Boot into Windows and go to Device manger and Update your Network Drivers and your Motherboard Drivers also run a System File Checker Scan

See http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html?ltr=S For More Information

Also try booting into Ubuntu using a live CD and Upload the Dump files you will be able to access your HDD

Hope This Helps,
Josh

Also did you run an Upgrade Advisor before you Installed Windows 7 - What was your Previous OS?

Live CD - Ubuntu

As for the Live CD,

you will need the following :
  • A Computer with internet connection
  • ISO Burner
  • ISO - Ubuntu 10.04 (Stable Release)
  • A Blank CD/DVD

First I would recommend Downloading the ISO for Ubuntu 10.04 as this is the most Stable Release for 10.10 is New and Buggy in some areas

See Download | Ubuntu For More Information Please Select the 10.04 Edition and 64 Bit

Be warned this is a Big Download and will take some time

After the Download has finished you will need an ISO Burner

If you scroll Down the download page there is a Section to show you how to Burn your ISO to your Disk

View attachment 129043

After your Disk is Burned Insert it into your System After that Restart your Computer and then using your Keyboard press enter for your Language and Press Enter for the TRY UBUNTU

Do Not install Ubuntu as this will install the GRUB Bootloader causing more Problems

Once in Ubuntu search for the Program called Nautilus this is a File Browser

Search for the Minidump file and Upload it in your next Post

WARNING - Please shutdown your Computer in Ubuntu and remove the disk as it will boot into the Disk after a restart

Hope This Helps,
Josh

Thanks will try that. I have just finished putting together this computer so it's a new installation. The SW I ran before on my lap top was running on 32-bit Vista.
