Solved BSOD during System Restore, Recent driver update at fault?

Hello, Yesterday I updated the driver for my AMD Radeon HD6310 equipped Gateway laptop . After it was installed WM player and VLC player stopped working so I rolled back the driver but it did not fix the issue. I noticed that after the "driver" installation, some programs were added and some windows processes were altered.

I went to System Restore and picked a restore point before the driver update. However after initializing, the system crashed and I got a BSOD. I tried several other restore points but they all crashed and led to the BSOD.

Any help would be appreciated.

System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, AMD Dual-Core Processor E-350, AMD Radeon HD 6310

Please run the DM Log Collector again and upload a new zip, the current uploaded one misses several logs.
You could check if there are

1. 18 .txt,
2. 1 .nfo,
3. 1 or more .dmp,

files present, if this is the case then all logs are present
If there are a few missing, no problem as we can get them manually if required

I ran the DM Log collector again and the .nfo and .txt files are now present. However, for some reason the .dmp files did not show up on the zip file.

So I ran it the DM Log collector once more and the .dmp files are now present on the second zip file.

To be clear, even though AMD stated that it was just a simple "driver update", it actually installed other software as well.

It installed 4 programs (that I can see) Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86) 11.0.50727, Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x64) 11.0.50727, AMD Quick Stream & AMD Catalyst Install Manager.

Please install the AMD drivers via this way:
Please uninstall everything of AMD using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from AMD.  System File Check

Please try following:

• Open an admin command prompt
• Copy/paste "sfc /scannow" (without quotes) and press enter
• When it is finished reboot your system
• Open again an admin command prompt
• Enter sfc/scannow again

If sfc/scannow says "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them" after the second SFC, please upload the cbs.log file located at {windows partition}\Windows\Logs\CBS\, if the file is too large try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive, google drive, mediafire etc.
System File Check(SFC a.k.a. Windows Resource Protection) needs to have your system rebooted in order for sfc to try to fix the problems that it finds.

Make a photo of the result and post it.

Run the long test.

   Note

Do not run SeaTools on an SSD as the results will be invalid.

Use option TWO with parameter /r

Run HDTune to

• scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
• check the health,
• benchmark.

It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
When above is done please make screenshots of the following

• the error scan,
• the health,
• the benchmark incl. following
  • transfer rate,
  • access time,
  • burst rate,
  • cpu usage.

In the Driver Install tutorial it says to download the installer from the AMD website.

Which one do I install? I used auto detect the previous time.

Is it the one for the HD 6000 series?

That is a typo, you need to get your drivers from your laptop manufacturer.

A typo? The tutorial specifically states to get the drivers from the AMD site. It even provides a link.

Since there are only two video drivers available for my laptop from Gateway (and I don't have a Radeon HD 6470M) should I install the generic AMD VGA driver.

Yes, a typo.
The template is focused on desktop systems, not laptop systems. The amount of desktops having BSOD problems with AMD drivers is quite large. While analysis is going some things are forgotten for changement.

Looking Good

I finally had time to tinker on my laptop. After using the DDU utility and reinstalling the original VGA driver both System Restore and WMP/VLC are working again.

Hopefully the issue is resolved once and for all. Fingers Crossed.
