Hello Everyone,

I've owned a lenovo Y570P 8gb with the i7 2630qm for about 2 years. Lately I've been getting random freezes while watching youtube, or while listening to music on windows media player, I've gamed for hours but have not had a problem while gaming, which is confusing to me.. Anyways, i've tried factory reformat, fully updating drivers and still freezing. tried clean formatting and updating to latest drivers and again freezing. Only certain things seem to trigger these freezes, like watching youtube / wmp / hwmonitor for some reason...

Let me know if you have any ideas as to what the problem could be.

Thank you!!

Fad.

Hi fadawah.

Download and install Intel® HD graphics Driver for Windows 7, as it is failing there.

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy.

Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings. Also set the BIOS to default, too.

I would recommend configuring and posting a Kernel Memory dump file. Read these steps for creating a Kernel Memory dump file, and then upload the file in a zipped folder to a free file sharing site such as SkyDrive or Dropbox. Upload the file to the Public folder of your account (Skydrive/Dropbox), and then post the URL to the file in your next post.

hmm interesting.. I followed those steps and it's already set to kernel memory dump. I haven't had a problem in the last couple of days so i'm waiting to see. I re-set it to do the kernel memory dump.

update... so while doing windows updates.. during a restart the computer hung at the starting windows screen and i got a bsod with stop error 0x09c. No kernel dump was generated I believe it didn't say anything, nor has the dump file been modified since the 15th. Is this pointing to a dying motherboard or cpu?

Have you been running Driver Verifier? Stop 0x9C is a Driver Verifier enabled bugcheck.

Open a elevated command prompt, and then type this command:

Code:
verifier /query

My Computer My Computer

Computer type

It says no drivers are currently verified.

Okay that confirms Driver Verifier isn't running, so the Stop 0x9C could be a form of bug which sometimes happens if a driver is potentially causing problems.

Have you checked this directory for any Kernel Memory dump files?

Code:
C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP

So there is nothing in that directory, or a file by that name. The original program I was having is also back instead of BSOD, I was listening to music and working on a word document when the computer froze and the audio just gave a buzzing sound. I left it for like 5 minutes, no BSOD and no dumps were created :/

Here is the autoruns file. I also followed the steps above in the website, didn't change anything as everything was already in place as instructed there. When the computer hangs i have to hold the power button until it shuts down or it just sits there, buzzing...

The bugcheck indicates that a issue has occurred with the internal timer of the CPU, Stop 0x124's are almost always hardware related.

Run the Small FFT's, Large FFT's and Blend Test for a few hours each. Do not let the temperature exceed 80*C.

Upon stopping the test, there should be a Prime95 log file created within the program folder.
Enable "Round off checking" before the test (see first post below tutorial).

Hey guys, sorry for the delayed update have been really busy!! So.... I ran the Prime test for ~ 2.5 hours for each of the 3 tests. It said it passed everything, and the max cpu temp recorded was ~83. I know that the cpu / gpu are not overheating, i initially thought that was the problem so i cleaned the fan and applied some AS5 and saw some really good temperature drops which was good but still the problem persists. I've also been playing around and the problem happens in 3 situations... When i'm watching youtube / netflix, when I open HWmonitor or CPUid or GPUZ or speccy, and when i'm listening to any type of music be it in wmp etc... I gamed for about 13 hours playing the whole SC2 campaign on ultra and not even a hiccup... then 3 hours later it froze on youtube... I went ahead and order a lenovo y410p since i figure it's time for an upgrade, and i found some additional income.. however I'd really like to figure this thing out :/

So.... I did a clean reformat to factory settings... however i set it to not download any of the windows updates... I update only the nvidia drivers... and problem seems to have disappeared. I'm going to continue playing around with it and see if can cause a crash but system seems stable. Before just by opening HW monitor i could expect a crash, now it's opening nice and quick without a freeze

Leave it for a couple of days, and did your clean install come bundled with Service Pack 1? I know, most people now slipstream Service Pack 1 into their install image to save time.
