Hi! I've been getting a ndis.sys BSOD error from time to time, and I can't find out which driver/what is causing it. I only have one minidump since I've discovered recently my minidumps weren't saving, and only after using a guide online I managed to make it work last week when another BSOD had happened (it had been a different error, but it was ndis.sys as well).

I've had some Atheros errors in the past, so I'm not sure if that's causing it or something else, like a Realtek driver because when I used the verifier and selected Atheros (and ran it for about 5 minutes - or should you let it run longer?), everything was okay.

Below is the DM Log made with AVG Free and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit temporarily turned off. Thank you!

Edit: I've done some more searching and the bluescreenview of the dump has these three lines selected in red:

In case this might help see what's causing it more easily.

Daemon tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause for BSOD's.
Please remove Daemon Tools and run the SPTD pass through remover.

  1. Uninstall Daemon Tools
  2. Download the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
    • Double click the executable to open it
    • Click on the button shown below

If the button is grayed out, like in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can close the window.

Please check Acer for BIOS updates and network driver updates.

The Acer drivers for my laptop haven't been updated since about 2013, and most of the drivers are from 2011. I'm on the latest BIOS ever since I've had the HDD replaced with a new one, and I'm not sure but I might have had more BSODs than on the previous one, but I'm not 100% sure. However I think I've always had atheros BSODs.

Should I try and update the Atheros driver with a general one from their website, like a friend suggested?

I found this, would you say it's safe? It's not listed on acer downloads for my laptop (the last Ahteros update is from 2011), however when I tried googling this update apparently it links to acer global downloads, so it's interesting it's there, however it's not in any OS category when I select my brand on the Acer website.

Download Acer Aspire 5750G Atheros WLAN Driver 9.2.0.432 for Windows 7

It lists - Fixed BSOD(0xD1_athr!MpReturnRxMSDU) reported by OCA in the release notes, which is interesting because the name of the bsod is the same one I just got.

I wouldn't, I don't call any driver not from the manufacturer safe.

What would you advise me to do in that case, since my Bios and all of my drivers are up to date? I can try uninstalling Daemon Tools later, but besides that I have no idea what else to do, other than trying out that new driver or asking over at Acer forums about the Atheros drivers and this bug, which might be a good idea.

Thanks for your tips btw!

My usual suggestion when there are no updates available is a reinstallation of the drivers.

I think I did that, but I'll try it again. I got another BSOD yesterday night, 0x1D again. Afd.sys this time.
