For a few weeks now I've been getting BSODs seemingly randomly. Can sometimes not do it for a few days then can get a few within so many hours.

System is 6gb Intel i7 920 with redeon graphics. I tried doing a system restore to go back a few weeks in case something had happened but after doing a safe mode start and then system restore it bsod's part-way through everytime.

I'm attaching the bsod reports as requested.

Would love some help with this guys...

Thanks

Geoff

I should have mentioned, the common factor is that all errors are related to ntoskrnl.exe

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in hope..!

Hi,

A few possible software causes here - nothing stands out as an obvious cause for all of your BSODs.

Code:
[COLOR=Red][B]18/10/2004[/B][/COLOR]      15:02:20  "C:\Program Files (x86)\[B]Samsung\DrPrinter[/B]\DgivEcp.sys"
SSPORT.sys Fri Aug 12 11:07:32 [COLOR=Red][B]2005 [/B][/COLOR](42FBDA34)
The above drivers are way out of date and are potential causes of your latest BSOD - uninstall the software (Samsung Printer software)

These drivers are out of date too
Code:
[B]PFC027.SYS [/B] Tue Dec 05 16:34:25[COLOR=Red][B] 2006[/B][/COLOR] (4574E8C1) - Webcam, update from Webcam Manufactuers website

[B]Spyder3.sys[/B] Tue Sep 11 01:13:46 [COLOR=Red][B]2007[/B][/COLOR] (46E5430A) - Datacolor Spyder3, update from http://support.datacolor.com/index.php?languageid=1&_m=downloads&_a=view

[B]SCDEmu.SYS[/B] Wed Aug 08 03:19:48[B] [COLOR=Red]2007[/COLOR][/B] (46B88D94) - PowerISO, uninstall as Virtual Disk software has been known to cause BSODs

[B]ALSysIO64.sys[/B] Mon Apr 16 03:56:31[COLOR=Red] [B]2007[/B][/COLOR] (46224B2F) - Coretemp; update from http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
Finally, you have Avast installed - this can potentially cause problems on Windows 7 systems.

Remove just to be safe.
Download the Avast Removal Tool (ART) from here -> save to desktop.

Boot into SAFEMODE - NO Networking. Then go to desktop, RIGHT-click on the ART icon and select Run as Administrator.

When complete - re-boot.

Install MS Security Essentials --> http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Then reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START -> type cmd.exe -> right-click -> run as administrator -> type netsh advfirewall reset press enter
If BSODs continue after all that then run Driver Verifier

Well here's the report back on this.... removed/updated some of the drivers mentioned - a couple I could not because no newer ones were available. No change......

Decided to remove Avast as advised - no been running 5 days no crashes and my hope is building....!

So it seems Avast - or some combination of Avast and some other unknown software I have installed is the culprit....I'll live without it and use MS Security Essentials instead.

Thanks for the help - much appreciated.

They're back.....

After a few weeks with only occasional bsod/reboots (perhaps one per week) in the past few days there are suddenly back big time - 2 or 3 in the past couple of hours.
I can't attribute this to any changes I'm aware of.

I'm attaching the bsod reports etc in the hope someone will spot what's up.

I noticed a couple of odd things in the perf report I've not seen before but aren't convinced they're connected.

Any further suggestions would be much appreciated.....

Cheers

Geoff

Hi,

A few BSODs mentioning memory corruption - time to start looking at the hardware side.

In addition, you must update the drivers that reventon mentioned before.

I did the following last time following the above advice:

Samsung driver Dr printer - removed
Webcam driver - updated
Spyder 3 driver - no later version available and I need this hardware for monitor calibration - photography work
PowerIso - uninstalled
Coretemp - updated

Avast - removed

Of course if you are saying it apears these are still present then maybe I haven't uninstalled them properly - in which case please advise which still remain

Otherwise I'll carry out the hardware tests as suggested in post above and report back in a couple of days.

Thanks for your help all.

Well, a few of them show up, however that could be because you hadn't updated them by the time of the BSOD. Avast is definitely gone.

I am more interested to see if they turn up in your next BSOD dump, and also what the hardware tests show up.

ok - I've just entered an even bigger world of pain....

ran the memtest overnight. No errors reported.

Rebooted machine, windows started, got the screen where the users are displayed and you click on who to logon. At this point the computer was still operating, disc still loading etc, however the pointed was frozen in the middle of the screen so I could clck on my user icon to login to the desktop. The light on the mouse was also not on nor were the lights on the keyoard although both and lit momentariliy as the machine booted into windows.

Tried many restarts, also safe mode - all the same.

Unplugged all usb connections apart from mouse and keyboard still same Also tried different mouse.

Booted from win 7 dic and tried repair. No difference. Decided to do system restore to earlier point - got error message "the instruction at 0xfa6bca53 referenced memor at 0x03acde8. The memory could not be read."

Same all all restore points.

Am fearing I'll have to do a format and fresh install. Anything else I can try first? Also concerned that as I don't know if the original BSODs were software or hardware I could go through the massive job of a ful reinstall and still have the original probs.

PLEASE HELP..!

Cheers

ok - having thought I tried all restore points I found one I hadn't which amazingly worked!

I'm no back in althour what caused the prob in the first place is a mystery.

Also I don;t know if all the non-woking restore points are linked to the original bsods or not.......

So - memtest ran all night without error. I'll try the oher tests suggested now and report back.

Any other thoughts in the menatime will be welcome.

Have run graphics test - temp maxed at 59 C and remained stable.

Prime95 run through night - cpu maxed around 75 C no probs.

The comp has now been crash free - this is without peripherals connected. I'm therefore beginnin to wonder if it's a prob with either the Wacom Intuos graphics tablet or the spyder 3 colorimeter.

The date of the spyder driver (2007) was pointed out as very old. There does not appear to be a later one though. I'm contacting the company to seek advice.

Am intending running comp for a bit more without these then reintroducing to see if they make it start crashing again.

Any thoughts?

That plan sounds good to me. It is really the only way to tell if those devices are at fault or not.

I take it you are a graphic design pro? If so - the makers of Spyder 3 (or your tablet for that matter) will do their best to help you if they know what is good for their business because:
a) You are their target market
b) I am sure you know many other graphic designers who will be interested to hear how their software failure disrupted your design work. :)
