BSOD help - NTFS.SYS - New Install

Hello folks,

Had a bunch of problems with a first install of W7 x64 Prof (Upg) Retail so I decided to check RAM and CPU for errors. No errors appeared (after roughly 24 hrs of tests on each stick, CPU). RAM voltage set according to manufacturer specs.

Phenom II X2 550 (no unlocked cores)
MSI 785GTM-E45 bios v. 8.8
2x2gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800mhz v4.3 @ 1.8 (only 2gb used right now, but BSOD when 4gb was in)
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
WD Caviar Blue 250gb hd
PNY 9800 GTX+ 512 MB
Enermax Infinity II 720W (revised version) PSU

Wiped the drive and reinstalled W7 (all Windows Updates installed, newest drivers for vid card), got this:

Updates: Seatools long test shows no drive errors. Chkdsk shows no errors. sfc /scannow shows no problems. Also ran Prime95 when it was first built, no problems there either. Looking at you W7... just doesn't seem to like two sticks!

Hello Neoshi, Welcome to sevenforums!!

I have looked over the dump file while its pointing to NTFS.sys it being a Microsoft core driver not likely to be the cause, As this is a fresh install drivers are unlikely also. But im looking over the drivers now.

But first try this.

Plug in all of your memory and boot into safe mode. In order to do this press F8 just before the Windows boot screen appears.

1. Type msconfig in the Start Menu.
2. Click on Boot and select Advanced Options.
3. Set the Number of processors to reflect the your configuration In Your Case 2 for dual core processors.

4. Manually set the value of Maximum Memory. Here memory size is specified in MB. Hence, for 4GB RAM you should set it to 4096.
5. Save the changes and restart your system.

Give that a whirl and post back while i continue reviewing your dump files and driver info.

Thanks Tony. I've made the changes and will see if instabilities continue. So far, no more BSODs (I know they will reappear). But something is always up with W7 for some reason.
