BSOD in BF3 beta, 285.38 drivers

Hello sevenforums,

I've played the BF3 beta two times now with NVIDIA's BF3 optimized beta drivers, and I've had two BSOD's. Both occurred after being on the server for about 15-20 minutes. I suspect the beta drivers are causing it but the crashing still suggests they don't mesh well with my system, and I'd like to know why.

Quite a few issues here


1-ASACPI.SYS

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.SYS file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).



2-SPTD.SYS

This is another large cause used by daemon tools and alcohol120

Remove any CD visualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.
They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

3- Your Avast. I would remove and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials

How To Find Drivers:

- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

You seem to have linked a different motherboard support page. I DL'd the ATK0110 driver from the P6TSE page just to be sure.

Is Avast known to cause issues? I'd like to keep that software, I like it

I believe all the motherboards use the same updater (unsure)

Avast can cause BSOD's especially on legacy systems.

I would do the Asacpi update first, then if you continue to crash remove and replace Avast.

I updated the ASACPI.SYS and got rid of SPTD.SYS, and also updated RT64win7.sys. I thought that solved it, because I hadn't experienced BSOD again in BF3 - until now. The bluescreen read "uncorrectable hardware error", and the error code was 0x00000124. I googled that and found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952681

Could this indicate a malfunctioning PCI-E interface or damaged video card?
