Hi,

I get a BSOD in Apps when clicking stuff in menus without Overclocking. Never while a stresstest. Prime95 v279 (30min), Furmark (30min) and AIDA64 (8hrs) are all stable. CPU max. Temp below 60°C, GPU max. Temp around 80°C. I have a completely new build. Never had the BSOD while OC, but I didn't really game that much with OC. Specs are in my profile. I checked to have all the latest drivers as good as I could.

I first thought it could be bad RAM, so I ran memtest86 for 12 passes (18,5hrs). It had 0 Errors.
I also reinstalled all Nvidia Grafics Driver but the problem prevails.

I really don't know what I should check next.

Thank you for your time

Hi Torn,

Welcome to the 7forums.

The 0x116(VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE) is a graphical crash.
Please uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from Nvidia
Please make sure there is no dust inside the case and that the video card is properly connected.

Thank you for your fast reply.

I used the tool provided to uninstall all drivers in Safe Mode.

After reboot I reinstalled all Nvidia Drivers (v.358.50).

After around 15min into a game, it crashed again.

Here's the new Minidump:

Hi Torn,

Please run the tool again and upload the zip file, I prefer the other files too as usual only a dump file is not enough.

Please remove MSI software, some are known for causing BSOD's.

Have you checked for any dust and if everything is properly seated?

The crashes are all 0x116 so there are a few options
  • Drivers
  • Damaged GPU
  • Dust
  • Not properly seated

You already have checked the GPU for damage, the drivers have been re-installed but if there is no dust and everything is properly seated then this is a driver problem.

I removed everything from MSI.

Then I checked again for seating and dust. No dust accumulation during last week. I am using custom dust filters. Card sits rock solid in the slot.

Then I ran Furmark (v1.17.0.0) for 2hrs, just to be sure. GPU stayed @ 83°C stable. Again all on stock settings, no OC.

Played for around 15min than the first crash happened. Played again, this time the crash happend after 2hrs.

I will attach all logs. As this is a new build I have full warranty. Shall I send the card back? I mean the Temp. and Perf. is very good, so I really don't think it's the card itself.

edit: also there is no vibration near/in the pc. So the PCI connection should be good.

The crashes are again 0x116.
This is driver related, but it might help if you try a clean install of the drivers again and remove the Nvidia software.

The temps you noted in the OP, are those temps from stress testing?
If so, please note the temps, without stressing, when idle and under load.

Please put the GPU in another slot and see if that helps.

Load Temps are around 80°C. Idle tmeps are around 50°. Fans kick in as soon, as the gpu gets load.

I also tried an older grafics driver today, same results, BSOD this time after 5min.

I don't really know if I can do that, as far as I know, only the uppermost slot gets 16 Lanes or am I missing something?

I am grateful for any help or advice :)
So what could I try next? Should I contact MSI/NVIDIA customer support or should I send the card (or the motherboard) back.
