Solved BSOD just at windows logo when starting up er. 0x000000FC

computers being BSOD'ing infrequently for a while while playing assorted video games so i saw this coming, now it BSOD's every time i start it up 2 seconds into the windows logo coming up
iv tried changing video cards, putting the harddrive in another computer, still bluescreens.

runs fine in safe mode with networking.

Stay in Safe mode. Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Do two more things. Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :

• Double click to open it.
• Click this button only:
• 
• If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

1. Click on the Start button
2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
3. Select the “Startup” tab.
4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
5. Apply > OK
6. Accept then restart.

Boot back to normal mode. Let us know for any further BSOD.

hey what would you recommend instead of daemon tools for a virtual cd drive? the microsoft one doesnt work on 64 bit operating system

All the disc emaluator programs are troublesome. You may use either 7-zip or Winrar. Both the programs can extract disc images, so the basic job will be equally done.

I use 7-zip for this purpose.
Supported formats:

• Packing / unpacking: 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP and WIM
• Unpacking only: ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, CramFS, DEB, DMG, FAT, HFS, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MBR, MSI, NSIS, NTFS, RAR, RPM, SquashFS, UDF, VHD, WIM, XAR and Z.
