Solved BSOD just browsing web on Firefox. 0x3b

Hello,

I'm starting to have BSOD win32k.sys again. I have attached the required files.

When the crash happened I wasn't doing anything intensive. The only application I had open was Firefox and I was reading a page at the time. I was not interacting with Firefox at all.

Hello skullpuck, your upload did not include any .dmp files. Please ensure that you have your mini dumps configured properly.

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click System.
3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
4. In the Write debugging information list, click Small memory dump (64k).

It was already set to Small memory dump (256k). I don't have a Small memory dump (64k) option in the drop-down list.

There's nothing else I can do to find out what happened?

if you navigate to C:>Windows>Minidump are there any .dmp files there? If so, Zip them up and attach them to your next post.

There is nothing in the minidump folder.

What am I doing wrong? I had it set up correctly.

The Event Viewer logs indicate that you may have, either, bad sectors or corruption on your HDD. Please follow this tutorail.

Also, please stop using CCleaner, at least until the troubleshooting is done. It's not necessary and is erasing things that we need to see.

I haven't used CCleaner in awhile. I will not use it until we are done.

If it has to do with my hard drive I think I may have a reason. I recently switched my drive configuration from a RAID-5 to a normal IDE setup. When I did this I just backed up my RAID-5 data, converted my disks to IDE, then reimaged one drive with the contents of the RAID 5 setup. It seemed to work and I didn't really have any issues until just recently.

I am currently running the Check disk on all 4 of my drives and will let you know the results.

Well, it's possible that it didn't go as smoothly as you thought. First, there is no reason for you to use any sort of RAID configuration on your home PC. Second, I doubt it will fix anything, but after the Disk Check finishes, try running http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

EDIT: SFC should be run up to three times, be sure to reboot between each run.

Thank you very much for your help. I ran chkdsk on C and it found numerous issues and repaired them. My computer hasn't BSOD since then.

However I have tried running sfc /scannonw and I get the following error:

Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 2% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of th
em.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

I have attached the CBS.log file. Is this something I should worry about?

Give it a go and see how it turns out. It may be necessary to do a full, clean install if your repair install doesn't go smoothly.

For the most part, yes. I've had a BSOD since I did the chkdsk but it was for dxgmms1.sys which is unrelated to hard drive issues as far as I know.

I haven't had any other hard drive problems since I did chkdsk. I know I need to run a repair install I just don't want to lose any information by doing so. I'm trying to hold off until Windows 8 is released and then I will do a clean install.

All of this is probably the wrong thing to do....

Doing a repair install will only fix Windows. It will not delete your files and programs. You should read over the tutorial I linked for you. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html It's pretty quick also. Not like doing a clean install. Anyway, best of luck.
