Hello
Hope someone can help me before I tear out whats left of my hair. Three weeks ago while playing BF3 on line the screen would freeze and I would have to reboot and it will run fine. A few days the pc would reset and/or freeze. Now I get BSOD whatever task I'm doing.
Blue screen viewer reports different bug check string each time but the bad driver is always ntoskrnl.exe. I have ran memtest on each stick ( 1x4 gb and 1 x2 gb) for at least 6 hours on each stick and they pass, put my old graphics card back in but I got DXdiag error, ran Western Digital HDD diagnostics tool and that was ok, reintalled drivers, reinstalled Windows 7 but to no avail.
One thing I have noticed is sometimes when I reboot after a crash the fans spin but pc doesnt boot. If I take out the stick of ram and put it back in the pc boots up.
Temps when gaming: gpu - 65C max, CPU 45C

Update: PC will not post at all this morning. Fans spinning but no beep. Checked PSU and voltages areok.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Hi Old Geezer.

It appears that you installed SP1 very recently, after having a few BSODs?

First of all. uninstall AVG.
Code:
fffff880`03a12258 fffff880`042129feUnable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\avgidsdrivera.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for avgidsdrivera.sys
[COLOR=Red]*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for avgidsdrivera.sys[/COLOR]
 avgidsdrivera+0x129fe
Uninstall AVG using AVG Remover. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

The next thing is rather interesting.
Code:
fffff880`03a12750 fffff880`05bc0000Unable to load image \??\[COLOR=Blue][B]C:\Users\Keith\AppData\Local\Temp\cpuz137\cpuz137_x64.sys[/B][/COLOR], Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for cpuz137_x64.sys
[COLOR=Red]*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for cpuz137_x64.sys[/COLOR]
 cpuz137_x64
The path in blue is not the right path to run CPU-z. It is appearing to be a malware trying to disguise under a known name.

First, run CCleaner (free) to remove all possible temps. Then scan the system for possible virus infection with the following programs only.

Also, as all the bugcheck codes are different, there remains a fair chance of memory corruption.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Let us know the results.

Ran windows defender and it came back clean. I've put my old cpu back in and the pc booted up no problem. Looks like a failing cpu.

Good find.

A hardware failure can actually cause any sort of issue. If the computer runs good with a replacement CPU, that is really good.

I hope you did not forget to apply thermal paste while installing the other CPU. :)

Let us know for any further issue.

Many thanks for your help Arc. I thought the CPU would be the last thing to fail. Didn't have this one for very long but that's the risk you take buying used off Ebay. Yes I applied the thermal paste. :)
