BSOD MSI GT70-0ND (GTX675m) nvlddmkm.sys 0x00000116

Hi Folks,

I have a MSI GT70-0ND Laptop with a Nvidia GTX675m. For weeks I have been getting BSODs with the following prompt:

error code: 0x00000116
nvlddmkm.sys

The programm Bluescreen view will provide these drivers as the ones failing:

dxgkrnl.sys
dxgmms1.sys
nvlddmkm.sys

Crash info will be provided in this post according to forum guidelines.

I am a bit desperate right now, since I have never ever spent so much time fixing a computer issue without any success.

Here is what happens around the crashes:

• Crashes occur on loading 3d environment, e.g. in games or with the furmark stress test
• Crashes already occur when loading the main menu of games sometimes
• Crashes occur not reliably, sometimes I can play for an hour before a crash occurs, but that is very rare
• Sometimes the video card will not be detected in the device manager after a reboot and the fan goes to 100% rotation speed, after another reboot, the graphics card will be detected properly
• On 2 occassions the crashes have appeared while playing a video with flash player in firefox
• Changes to the system (the registry maybe?) e.g.using the windows system restore function sometimes seem to fix the issue for a couple of hours until the problem reappears
• This is not a heat related problem, I checked the temps with GPU-Z, the temp was always at around 50°C when the crashed occured at startup of a game or at around 70° when the crashed occured mid game
• The system will run fine, if I switch to the integrated graphics chip. I can even play games in low resolution with it

Here are the things I have done which didn't fix the issue:

• Reinstalled the graphic card drivers, provided by the Laptop OEM, performing a clean install with Display Driver Uninstaller
• Cleaned fan and heat exchanger from dust
• Checked for any loose electrical contacts
• Unistalled Qualcomm Atheros Killer Network manager and reinstall the driver for the network card
• Reinstalled the drivers for the integrated graphics chip on the cpu, Intel HD Graphics 4000, since it first appeared, the problem would occur at the moment the system switches from the Intel graphics, which it uses in desktop mode, to the nvidia card
• Flashed the System BIOS
• Flashed the VBios of the graphics card
• Set back to system restore point after the problem first occured
• Uninstalled MSI VGA overclocking tool disabling the overclocking of gpu
• Disabled all non-windows services. This one was odd: at first the problem seemed fixed and occured not for a couple of hours, but then it reappeared. Until now it seems that if I reenable all non windows services, and disenable them again, the problem goes away for some time but eventually comes back. The problem still will occur, whether non-windows services are disabled or not
• Updated the DirectX files using MS DirectX Web Installer
• Played with the Nvida Controll panel settings, especially set the energy conspumption mode to "maximum performance". This also made the problem go away for one or two hours, after which it came back
• Performed a complete system recovery, using MSI system recovery manager, which set back windows to factory settings. I have done this twice. The first time, the problem seemed fixed for about 6 hours of ingame time, then it reappeard. During the second reinstall, the fan would suddenly go 100%, just as if the graphics card would not be detected. After the system had automatically rebooted during the process, the fan was at normal speed.
• Clean uninstalled Kaspersky Internet Security using Kaspersky Removal tool

I'd like to emphasize, that my dump file provided here might contradict some of my statements, since I did reinstall windows twice in the meantime. For example Qualcomm Atheros Killer Network manager is currently installed, but I tried unistalling and fixing the network card driver before.


My hopes are low, that there will be a software fix for my problem. I have read on several occassions, that this could be hardware problem, nobody knew for sure of course. But the exact problem itself is very common with the GTX675M, so I hope for help.
It would be absolutely awesome, If somebody would take the time reading through all of this. I know that help on such a level can not be taken for granted. Thanks alot !!!!!!

A little Update

Yesterday my laptop died completely, running furmark 3d test. Now it wont turn on, no matter if the battery is inserted, the powercord is plugged in and so on. No leds are flashing upon pressing the power button, no beeping is heard. So I guess there is problem with the powersupply withing the laptop. And I guess this original problem also caused the bluescreens, since the laptop would loose power on high load while running 3d applications.
