So I received a solid state drive for Christmas last year and haven't had any luck with installing it. I'm doing everything I can to rule out that it was DOA considering that at this point it's probably past warranty and I don't really wanna drop the money on a new one.

Following a clean install on my past two machines, the computer runs fine for a little while but will then sporadically begin throwing blue screens as it desires. I've tried to replicate the crashes but have had no luck. There appears to be no conditions required for the system to crash, so my initial thought was some kind of hardware malfunction. This year I received an entirely new set up, and of the things to come over to the new machine were my SSD and my HDD. Took a day or two, got it up running, and, lo and behold, same issue.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with moving the User file off the SSD so as to cut back some space. I've tried accomplishing this through registry hacks and even through moving the user file prior to completion of the installation of Windows, using junctions then changing some things in the registry. If you guys could point me in the direction of some help in this department as well, that would be splendid.

As I'm in class at the moment, I can post the syslogs when I get home. I'm just hoping that perhaps this might get the gears turning.

System Specs:
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban
ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G
Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 12GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
OCZ Agility 2 OCZSSD2-2AGTE60G
1TB Segate SATA HDD

Where it's a new system, I'll have to double check my system specs when I return from class. I'll also be uploading my dumps when I get done with class for the day, so I thank you for your patience.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.
To ensure minidumps are enabled:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION (109)
This bugcheck is generated when the kernel detects that critical kernel code or
data have been corrupted. There are generally three causes for a corruption:
1) A driver has inadvertently or deliberately modified critical kernel code
 or data. See http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/kernel/64bitPatching.mspx
2) A developer attempted to set a normal kernel breakpoint using a kernel
debugger that was not attached when the system was booted. Normal breakpoints,
"bp", can only be set if the debugger is attached at boot time. Hardware
breakpoints, "ba", can be set at any time.
3) A hardware corruption occurred, e.g. failing RAM holding kernel code or data.

The last two are Bug Check 0x109: CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION and could be due to drivers needing updating, Windows needing updating (I note you do not have SP1 installed yet), hard disk errors, or viruses/malware.

The other crashes have a wide assortment of possible causes. We will just have to go through troubleshooting steps and try to narrow down the cause. Before doing so I have some questions:

1. Have you updated the firmware for your SSD?
2. Have you updated your BIOS since installing all components?
3. What antivirus are you running?

Some things I can suggest regardless of your answers to these questions:

1. Have you updated the firmware for your SSD?
2. Have you updated your BIOS since installing all components?
3. What antivirus are you running?

As it stands, I've yet to install the firmware. As I was in the process of configuring after a new install when I ran into this issue, I haven't yet had time to install everything.

I believe the BIOS is up to date, but as a cautionary measure, I'll be sure to check to updates.

As for antivirus, again, as I have only just started to configure my install, I have yet to install it. I plan on installing Avast Free Antivirus as I usually have very few problems with Avast.

On another note, I am currently running check disk, and was actually in the process of doing so prior to your post. Once I've checked both disks, I can post both logs here. After check disk has completed, I plan on running Memtest and will check back with those results as well.

I would not recommend installing Avast until after we sort out your stability issues. The Gurus on this forum suggest running Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows in the meantime to run along with Windows firewall. This will keep your computer protected and there are not any known stability problems at present.

At the moment, I'm not too worried about antivirus as I have the computer unplugged from the internet. For now, I'll be using my laptop to download files and transfer them over so as to avoid any bad luck I may have on the internet.

I should also probably add; I'll be installing the most recent firmware for my SSD after I've finished running check disk.

Alright, this is also a viable security measure and good troubleshooting step. I should be here when the disk check is completed or soon afterward. If any errors are found, you may want to run disk check again before doing the firmware update just to be safe.

One other quick question; my method of installation was to install to the SSD then migrate to the HDD. Would there be another recommended method of installation that is potentially more stable? Slash should I run check disk on both drives?

I believe your questions are answered in the links I provided through SSD Links. I have not worked with SSD drives myself, so I only know what I've read. I would rather let those who made the tutorials answer your questions since they have more experience than I do with those drives.

As to running the disk check on both drives, I would run it on both drives the first time, and then run it again on any drives that had errors pop up. On the HDD, you want to run with both boxes checked. For the SSD, Automatically fix file system errors is sufficient as the repair option does not apply to SSDs (from what I've read).

Check disk came up okay. Memtest started coming back with errors, so I'm going to see if I can't check each of the RAM sticks separately. Hopefully I can test to see if this will fix the problem and then deal with a warranty if I have to.

Alright, let us know if you find the bad modules and whether you are able to resolve the issue by changing the RAM layout. Sorry you are having RAM errors. :(

Currently memtesting the first stick of memory. First pass threw and error and the second pass completed normally. As a side note, could you possibly take a look at the motherboard compatibility with my RAM? I want a second set of eyes to take a peek and make sure everything is squared away.

If it is not DDR3 1600, it is not necessarily compatible. If you get even one error running Memtest86+, that is one error too many and you may have compatibility conflicts.

Your best plan of action for replacing RAM, if that is your next step, would be to call RAM manufacturers and find out what kit works best with your board and CPU. Corsair and G-Skill wouldn't be a bad place to start. You may also look into AMD Memory for Systems since you have an AMD CPU. Recommend DDR3 1333 as it is more compatible with AMD technology.

So after running memtest all day yesterday, I may have taken care of the issue. Upon running memtest, I discovered that two of my three sticks of memory were throwing errors, so I'll be running my rig all day today with the one stick of memory that was found to not have errors. I'll keep my eyes peeled for any blue screens and will post any new dump files if I have an issue. Thanks for all your help.
