Solved BSOD nvlddmkm.sys + dxgkrnl.sys SLI GTX480

Hi there,

I am a bit in troubled, I have now two GTX 480 and everything is running fine. But when I enable SLI en only when I enable SLI I get the famous BSOD screen.

I have already reinstalled several drivers (285, 280, 295 and 301 (beta)) and have already updated DirectX. Also have I done a complete system reinstall and tried several SLI bridges. Also have I tried to disable my network interfaces and high def. audio controller. (there are a lot of post about this issue on the forum!)

Some system specification,
GTX 480 EVGA

the BSOD screen says;
nvlddmkm.sys
0x00000116

and with bluescreenview I can see these drivers also.
dxgkrnl.sys
dxgmms1.sys

You have a large overclock on your system. There's no way to tell if it's the overclock, the hardware, Windows, or other drivers. Please return the system to stock (default) values while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system is stable.

SP1 isn't installed, please do the following:

Installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1
1. Visit the PC manufacturer's website and update ALL drivers. DO NOT use Windows Update or the "Update drivers" function of Device Manager.
2. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)
3. Visit Windows Update and get all updates (may take repeated visits)
4. Visit Windows Update and get Service Pack 1 (usually under Important Updates). Read these notes for installing SP1: Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 from the Microsoft Download Center
5. Visit Windows Update and get any other available updates. May take repeated visits, but keep it up until you get several "Windows is updated" results.

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's. Here's the information that I've compiled so far:

There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
- Update chipset and storage controller drivers to the latest available from the manufacturer of the device (not the manufacturer of the motherboard). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard!
....NOTE: Recently (Nov 2011) we had BSOD issues with the Marvell 91xx controller and an SSD. You may have to switch controllers also.-
Replace the SSD with a platter based hard drive and see if that stops the BSOD's. If it does, then it's likely that there's a problem with the SSD OR an incompatibility with your system.
It's my opinion that SSD's aren't reliable enough (with current hardware) to be used on a system that needs to work reliably. Until I see reliability I will not recommend, nor will I use, SSD's for critical applications.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please uninstall the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): DuplexSecure - FAQ

Thank you for your quick reply! I have now installed service pack 1 and update until there are no more updates.

I have also restored any overclock and put them off again. I had already update any device, because I have reinstalled it from scratch.

My SSD has the latest firmware, and I will test if lowering my memory speed helps. (I doubt it but can always try) I will also try to update any devices or controllers separately. Daemon Tools is removed.

I have also tested my GPU with a cuda program they hold up perfectly. And have read did test an tried fixes in the VIDIO_TDR_ERROR post.

I will troubleshoot further!

EDIT: have now done all and does not work, I sent my gpu back to the store and just use one.. Thanks anyway!
