BSOD occurring under different situations (ntoskrnl.exe)

I have been following several threads on this board for two months and just want to thank all those who have put out ideas on how to fix the harder BSOD causes.

A couple of things to mention:

  1. Before my first BSOD occurred a couple of months ago, my system ran perfectly for four years with no problems.
  2. Last month, I replaced my Samsung 840 Pro system SSD drive with the newer 850 pro model, but the BSOD's came back after a week.
  3. I am currently running Driver Verifier (without it, the minidump never gets created).
  4. I am currently running Memtest +86.
Any help appreciated, thanks!

Second update. I updated to the latest chipset drivers just in case they were not up to date but I experienced a crash this morning.

I know my mobo is a couple of years old and am wondering if the onboard Marvell SATA 3 controller is somehow responsible.

I could switch my system drive to the SATA 2 port instead but I would rather not if there is an alternative.

The process causing the BSOD is chrome. Have you installed any add-ins? Or do you get the BSODs in random website or just one website?

Thanks for responding. I had noticed the Chrome was often open when the errors occurred however I tried using Internet Explorer and I experienced the BSOD.

To your question, I have many chrome extensions installed on the browser do you think removing them would make a difference?

To the second part of your question, I believe I am experiencing the problem on random websites.

I have moved the system Drive from the SATA three port to the SATA two port and will continue to monitor.

Laith,

Thanks.

These are the extensions I currently have running on Chrome.

  • AdBlock 2.14
  • Adblock Plus 1.8.7
  • Google Docs 0.7
  • Google Sheets 1.0
  • Google Slides 0.8
  • Hangouts 2014.1112.433.1
  • Link2Clip 1.1
  • Search by Image (by Google) 1.5.1
  • TabCloud 1.17

None really look suspicious to me.

You?

24 Hours and no BSOD.

I'm hoping that switching the SATA ports did the trick.

I'll keep monitoring for a couple more days and post any updates to this thread.

Just when I thought it was safe to go back in...

BSOD! With several Chrome windows open.

No minidump (as usual), but here is the quick and dirty version:

Kernel Data Inpage Error

Code: 0x7A ....

Driver: volmgrx.sys

Additional: Memory Dump Failed with 0xC0000185

Laith,

I took your advice and removed the following extensions:

  • Link2Clip
  • Search By Google

Hoping that makes a difference.

Well that helped alot. Volmgrx.sys is causing the problem. It is the Volume Manager Extension Driver.

Make a backup of your files and re-install windows. That should fix the problem.
