BSOD on restart, occasionally startup, error 0x0000003B

I have recently been having problems with my Windows 7 x64 machine with it's specs listed in my system info.

The problem initially was intermittent freezes when turning on and shutting down my computer. When I turned it on the Windows logo animation would stop before it finished, freeze for a few seconds and then jump to the Windows welcome screen. Most of the time it would make it to the desktop, but sometimes the loading orb would stop moving and I would have to restart the computer to make it to the desktop. In addition, sometimes when I shutdown the PC it would freeze on the shutdown screen (blue with loading/progress orb) and I would have to do a hard shutdown. Sometimes there would be a BSOD, sometimes there wouldn't be. One of the blue screens, which I have attached a picture of, froze on "Collecting data for crash dump..." These problems seemed to have gone away after I update my graphics card drivers and switched from the AMD AHCI driver to the default Microsoft AHCI driver.

Today the problems seem to have returned. When I restarted my computer after disabling "Tablet PC Components" the screen became pink and purple with artifacts and lines. It then went went straight to a BSOD with the error code in the title. I was able to restart and use the SF diagnostics tool and have attached the files it collected.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Edit: The startup animation issue persists. Before the Windows logo glows but after the four colors have started to move it stops. The screen then jumps to the welcome screen.

The dumps you uploaded are very old, and does not match with the screenshot you supplied. Analyzing the dumps, and other files you supplied, I have found some strange situation, and in my best opinion you should start afresh.

Follow the guide http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219576-clean-up-factory-bloatware.html with a special consideration to the point #13.

13. Consider a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which is often better than getting a new computer considering how pre-installed bloatware can corrupt Windows 7 even if it's completely cleaned up.

If still it crashes, we will need to go for the hardware checks, but at first you should clean up a lot of junks installed and/or need to have a perfect reinstall.

Arc, I checked my dump settings and when I confirmed them it said that my page file was either disabled or less than 400 MB - which doesn't make sense because my page file setting is for Windows to manage the size, and it is about 8 GB. I checked the box for Windows to manage the page file size for *all* of my drives instead of only my SSD where the OS is installed (it was disabled on my other drives). Now it no longer says I have no page file when I confirm the dump settings. I think that it should be putting out dumps now. I'll wait for another blue screen and see if it gives me a dump, since I'd like to be completely sure that a clean install is necessary. I'll get back to you once I have another one.

Upload the next dump.

But, better you follow the instruction I have given you previously, if it is not a big problem for you.

Today, after applying the registry edit as instructed, I had another BSOD when I restarted my computer. The Windows animation froze as before, I heard a click (it sounded like one of the relays in my powersupply - it probably is one), the screen went black for several seconds, and I had a blue screen. The text was all garbled as shown in the picture, and it didn't produce a minidump. Would you suggest running Memtest86+ or do you want another zip of the files from the analyzer tool? The reason I don't want to reinstall Windows 7 right now is that, with finals next week, I don't have the time and I need to use my computer.

OK, then let us proceed ... but due to lack of necessary information, the speed of progress will be slow.

Let us start with free up the startup.

1. Click on the Start button
2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
3. Select the “Startup” tab.
4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus. (MSC in your case)
5. Apply > OK
6. Accept the restart.

Do it, and let us know the result.

I did as you instructed. The computer restarted fine, except that it still froze during the boot animation, went black for a few seconds, and jumped to the welcome screen. If you'd like I can record a video of this happening.

upload your MSINFO32.nfo file, for one more time after making the changes as you said.

1. Click on the start button
2. Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
3. File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
4. Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
5. Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

Do one more thing. Uninstall all the ASUS and MSI programs you have installed.

Those are not needed, and sometimes they may make various issues.

I've gotten rid of all the MSI and Asus software except for my sound card drivers. I still experience the startup animation freeze, but so far no blue screens. I will report back if one does occur.
