BSOD playing Dark Souls, error 0x00000124

No; as I said, I'm not sure why it was there. When I ran into it then, I looked at my registry to see if there were leftovers from the installation but couldn't find any, other than the start-up entry.

No, I removed that via CCleaner after checking.

On another side note, this morning I took the PC apart as far as I could, mainly for intense dusting (to ensure it remains the cleanest, most dust-free thing in this place) and also to see if any hardware was loose or even broken. It looks all fine to me but I'm not sure whether something would have to be on fire for me to realize something's wrong.

It isn't a hardware (related) issue, then you would have more problems then a crash with only 2 games.

Is the CCC installed?

Not at the moment. I had it installed before but didn't use it much; the crashes happened with and without it running. Since I did rarely use it, I haven't re-installed it even though removing it didn't help.

Do you have games that are look-a-like dark souls?

I don't think so, though it's hard to tell. I had pondered whether it could be a disagreement between the engine and my hardware or software but it turns out quite a few games of mine use that (namely Witcher 2, which is one of the few I have played since this nonsense started).

Witcher 2 is in there twice due to some sort of bug with GOG Galaxy. There's probably a fix for that.

Please uninstall Game Booster 3 and let me know how it goes.
IObit isn't really a trustworthy company, especially because it sells a few scam products.

Will do and report back. As always, it may or may not take a while until I get results. (Earlier today, I could actually get through the DS2 cutscene which caused a BSoD yesterday, so. Randomness.)

One thing I was wondering, though at this point it's probably too late for that anyway: Can such semi-constant BSoDs actually damage my system? It seems unhealthy. Otoh, it also seems like Windows' way to prevent damage.

A bluescreen can only corrupt software IF it does, because a bluescreen is meant to protect the system from dataloss (software).

In my time, 3/4 of a year, of doing this, I have seen just a few times bluescreens corrupt the system due to the heavy amount of bluescreens and problems.

Not so good: DS2 just crashed on me. It wasn't a blue screen but once again the display driver being unresponsive; I suspect that whatever's causing that would sooner or later lead to BSoDs again. Oddly enough, there was no wibbly-wobbly graphical effect this time. I was just standing around. AMD does not approve of my inactivity.
Could it be that when the driver crashes and Windows somehow fails to restore it, I get a BSoD or are these two occurrences completely unrelated?

When the video drivers fail to respond, you get a 0x116(VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE)
TDR means timeout detection and recovery, in the 0x116 this process fails where in the 0x117(VIDEO_TDR_TIMEOUT_DETECTED) the process is ultimately succesful.
These error codes and a few others are usually specific to the graphics.

Wait. Does that mean I'm dealing with two different issues regarding these games?

What bothers me is that they run so well until out of nowhere they're all, "Ha, fooled you."

It is close to a bluescreen, but if no bluescreen occurs then there are 2 different issues.

Oh, this is just getting better and better, isn't it. Well. I'll return after my next blue screen, then; like I said, I'm a pessimist and quite convinced it will happen.

There we go, just got my BSoD. Haven't played much this past week so it took a while; at least so far, DS2 seems more stable than DS. However, I just arrived back at the cutscene from hell in DS and it appears to be infallible.
Now, technically, this isn't exactly an issue as cutscenes can be skipped. But whenever I play these games now I'm twitchy and expect terrible things to happen.
