Long story short built I this computer for crypto-currency mining but couldn't get it stable, now I am trying to play some games on it but it still BSODs. I don't know much about bsod or troubleshooting but from what i remember it always showed up as the same error on the bsod (0ax000001 not sure how many zeros there were after the "x").

Yep, all there now. I'll take a look shortly but I'm not fully conversant with W8.1, if there is anything that would benefit from an 8.1 analyst looking at it I'll recommend you post your logs over on Windows 8 Forums

OK, turns out it was pretty simple. Every dump is singling out your ATI drivers.

Download the 13.9 driver from here then use AMD Uninstall Utility to remove all traces of your current driver, CCC etc. Reboot and install the 13.9 driver.

   Note
When installing choose 'Advanced' or 'Custom' (whichever option is available, just not Express) and uncheck everything except the video driver.

Test and report back.

Same again, your ATI driver. Just to double check, you did uninstall all components of your previous driver before installing 13.9? If so, let's concentrate on your GPU.

:ar: Run Furmark to stress test your GPU. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100356-video-card-stress-test-furmark.html

   Note
Run Furmark for around 30 minutes.

   Warning
Your GPU temperatures will rise quickly while Furmark is running. Keep a keen eye on them, if the temperature continues to rise steadily once it has reached 80°C be prepared to stop the test so as to not damage your GPU.

sorry if the image looks kinda crap, im not the best with the resizing images. Also it Furmark thinks that it is 14.4 but that should have been uninstalled and replaced with 13.9. MSI Afterburner also still says 14.4. Before i have tried using a program called amddrivercleanup which supposedly wiped all the drivers and any leftover files ect. Could that have messed up the drivers permanently?

That looks fine. What I'd recommend now is repeating the driver uninstallation process and installing the very latest driver for your GPU.

So it crashed again, it didn't actually bsod though, just froze and the sound glitched out. I waited a few min and it didnt bsod so i just restarted. this was with the newest drivers 14.4. I also have a r9 280x which i tried with this computer which didnt bsod, but the drivers would "fail and recover" causing me to restart games anyway

so it seems using the 2nd pcie 16x slot works fine since i havent bsod or had drivers crash as of so far. Does this mean that i can't use the onboard crossfire capability since it seems the 1st 16x slot doesn't work. Also, would having gpu's which use the external crossfire connector thingy circumvent the 1st 16x slot issue?

To be blatantly honest I don't know as I've never used CrossFire or SLi. Is an RMA out of the question?
