I have been battling BSOD Power_State_Failures on my alienware m17x r3 for almost a year now and they have been occuring since day 2 out of the box with seemingly no pattern of frequency. Sometimes my system goes weeks without crashing and sometimes it'll crash 5 times within 3 minutes of startup on the same day doing easy tasks like watching netflix or editing a word doc without any change in location or physical setup.

There does seem to be a pattern of crashing while playing League of Legends, but i read somewhere that the intel speedstep feature was causing BSODs and upon disabling it I rarely encounter power state failures while playing that specific game. However, my system still blue screens while doing things like watching netflix, browsing the internet, doing homework, etc.

I've called into Dell support several times, but they just have me run diagnostic tests and tell me to call back and wait on hold if it blue screens again... which it always does. I appreciate any help i can get and would love to get this finally figured out

I'm running an i7 2720qm processor with an nvidia gtx 460m graphics card, on windows 7 64bit with 8gb of ram

I haven't posted on that forum yet, but have been searching through similar topics to find a lot of half thought through or effortless responses about trying to update drivers, but I've had several sessions of reinstalling or updating all my drivers through the dell site before and it's never seemed to fix anything. I guess I'll try another driver update session, but any other help i can get here would be most appreciated!

Your minidump suggests there's an issue with your nVidia drivers. Have you checked for updated nVidia drivers?

My nvidia driver has already been updated to the newest version, 296.10, since mid march and I just checked the nvidia website again and it said 296.10 is the most recent driver available. Could it be that it was installed incorrectly? because I have updated the graphics drivers several times through the winter and the problem has persisted despite the updates to the graphics drivers.

It may also be worth mentioning that I actually reinstalled windows in april and reinstalled all the drivers from disk/dell site and the BSODs still continued regardless
