Solved BSOD - problems with RegCleanPro

OTL

Hi Donna. When I ran the scan yesterday, it lasted about a second. Today, as soon as I hit Run Fix, the 'Reboot Now' window immediately appeared.
A snip of the C:\_OTL\Moved Files folder is attached. You'll see it's similar to yesterday - there's the OTL.txt and the File Folder with the same name but this time the folder is empty - the PCMatic file is not there.

I copied and pasted your scan instructions onto Notepad - attached. I sometimes find that extra empty lines are added but not this time.

Does that mean that you've successfully removed the orphaned stuff?

Hi Taffy,

Yes. The orphans have been successfully removed.

I am not sure why we received the same results with those commands and I will certainly bring this to the attention of the developer. I am going to have to reset the Hosts file, Empty Temps, and refresh your restore points in another manner.

To reset the Hosts File follow the instructions in >>this link to click on Microsoft Fix it 50267. You will see the little guy holding the wrench.

As for the Restore Points:

To manually create a new Restore Point:

  • Go to Control Panel and select System
  • On the left select System Protection and accept the warning if you get one
  • Select System Protection tab
  • Select Create at the bottom
  • Type in a name i.e. Clean
  • Select Create

Now we can purge the infected ones:

  • Go to Start > All programs > Accessories > system tools
  • Right click Disc cleanup and select run as administrator
  • Select Your main drive and accept the warning if you get one
  • For a few moments the system will make some calculations
  • Select the More Options tab
  • In the System Restore and Shadow Backups select Clean up
  • Select Delete on the pop up
  • Select OK
  • Select Delete

Turn System Restore on:

  • Go to Control Panel and select System
  • On the left select System Protection and accept the warning if you get one
  • Select System Protection tab
  • Select Configure button at the bottom
  • Select Restore system settings and previous versions of files
  • Select Apply > OK

To refresh your Restore Points, please do as follows:

And to remove OTL:

OTL Clean-Up

Right click on the
OTLicon.jpg
icon on your desktop and choose Run as administrator to open the main window.

Next click on the
CleanUpButtonOTL.jpg
button.

Once clean up is complete you will be prompted to reboot your computer. Please do so.

This will remove most of the programs we have used including itself.

If there are any left over tools or logs on your computer please delete them now.

Let me know if I overlooked anything.

Donna :)

THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH, DONNA B! xxxxx

Everything is now resolved, Donna - all the bad stuff consigned to the bin!

Thank you ever so much for resolving my problem, not only for the technical help that you gave me but also (and probably more important to me) the very friendly way that you dealt with me - no patronising or stuff like that.

In closing, I know of two PC experts who would do well to come to you to learn the meaning of "Customer-friendly" - given their poor attitudes though, I doubt that even you could improve them!

Thanks again.;)
