Hello everyone. I have a problem that I need help with.
I bought ram from Newegg to increase my ram to 32GB on a system that I had built last year. However, the system wouldn't boot with all four sticks. I get no sounds and the lights do not light up in my system. When I try to shut down the system it won't shut down unless I hit the button on the back. I have tried different configurations and it seems that any configuration works as long as there is no stick in the slot next to the processor. However, with three sticks the system will eventually BSOD. It's clear that the modules are not bad as any combination of two works so I wonder if that final slot is bad or is there some setting that I need to change. I should note that I went to my purchase history on Newegg and got the same RAM as I got when I was building my pc. The original two are marked Jul 2019 and the ones I now have are marked May 2020. Everything but the part numbers are the same. I hope someone can help me figure this out.

That doesn't sound good. You indicate the system is quite recent, still worth checking the mobo site to see if there is a bios update.

Yes. three work for a time and then I get the BSOD. The only time it will not boot is if all four slots are used. Also any one stick works. I don't understand it.

I should note that I have forced Windows 7 on a Ryzen system. There was a tool on gigabyte that made this work. I have tried to update the bios but it says it is incompatible with my system. I have a windows 10 partition. Could I flash there and have this worK?

Maybe ask at win raid forum. A lot of people there running win7 on new hardware. I haven't heard of this before, but maybe somebody there has come across it. Could be unconnected to win7, might be something wrong with your hardware.

It is odd that a pair works, but a third causes a problem. To use 3 you must be mixing the 2019 ram with the 2020 purchase. Could that be a clue?

then there is the complication of
works as long as there is no stick in the slot next to the processor

It does sound like a hardware problem

Thanks. I will try that forum. However, I was wrong about the last slot not working. All four work and I can use them in any combination except all four. And yes, I was mixing the 2019 and 2020 sticks. Might just have to stay with 16GB for awhile. Thanks for the help.

Can you give the two links to both sets of RAM you bought from the Egg please?

Did you go into BIOS and set the XMP profile?

Is your RAM on the motherboard manufacturer's QVL list?

Sorry. I should have closed this. I just decided to by a 32GB set of two. But I did set the XMP profile. Thanks for your help though and I also want to thank SIW2. But there is clearly a problem with the two sets of RAM. Both sets work independently but not mixed. One stick of 2019 and one of 2020 will cause a shutdown. But thanks for your time. I really appreciate it.
