BSOD Random activity. BSOD code: 09f

Hello.
Recently I was getting some BSODs, it happened while watching a movie, speaking on teamspeak with some applications in background and even with only uTorrent running.

Basic information about BSOD:

  • DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
  • 0x0000009f
  • Parameter 1: 00000000`00000003
  • Parameter 2: random
  • Parameter 3: fffff800`00ba2748
  • Parameter 4: random
  • Caused by driver: ntoskrnl.exe
  • Caused by adress: ntoskrnl.exe+75bc0 (mostly)

Done so far:
  • I ran HDD surface test under DOS and it showed no bad sectors or anything. Not even one sector with more than 50ms access time.

Thanks for help in advance

I am attaching zip file created with DM Log Collector.

thru, Welcome to Seven Forums, I will try to help you get your computer running right. The dump files list 2 drivers both are supplied by Windows update and are also part of your Chipset drivers. I would make sure the all Windows Updates are installed and perhaps go to the Acer Website for your model computer and see if there is an updated Chipset driver. They are both USB drivers, so I would make sure the items plugged into your USB ports are in good working order.

Code:

Hello essenbe, thank you for the reply!

All drivers I have are up to date. There's no chipset driver on manufacturer's website and I have never installed such. I think chipset is integrated along with GPU and CPU.

I'll switch my mouse. I have already changed keyboard which didn't help with BSOD.

I also have a new microphone (mini jack), can it be a problem?
I had it plugged on at least few blue screens. Not sure about the rest.

You might be right about the windows update. I used not to install any but recently I downloaded a few updates. I'll finish downloading them all then

I wouldn't think the Microphone would be s problem, unless it has drivers which weren't installed, but then it shouldn't work right if that were true. What model Acer do you have? I don't recall a motherboard not having Chipset drivers, but some of the OEM's, it wouldn't surprise me what they do. The Chipset drivers have USB drivers incorporated into them along with other things.

I have Acer Aspire One 722. AO722 as short is pretty common.
The microphone had no drivers in the box when I bought it. Neither manufacturer got them on the website.

The windows updates are needed, especially the important updates. I looked up your drivers and you are right, there are no Chipset drivers. But, what is of concern is there are 2 wireless drivers listed, I suspect you only need 1, for whichever wireless adapter you have, Bluetooth drivers are the same as well as the touchpad driver and another one I think.

You need to go to device manager and look up which wireless, bluetooth, touchpad and other components you have in your machine and install only that driver. What they have done, I believe, is some of their Acer one machines were manufactured with a different Bluetooth adapter, several wireless adapters as well as touchpads so they listed them all on the website. If you install 2 different wireless drivers, one that works on your computer and one not needed, you are just asking for driver conflicts. The same with all the other ones that have the same type driver 2 or 3 versions. Your device manager will tell you for instance whether you have a Broadcom wireless Lan or an Atheros wireless lan. Only install the one you need and uninstall the other one. If I didn't explain that right, please don't hesitate to ask. I don't mind explaining.

Basically what I am saying is the model you have was sometimes built with different parts or adapters. To cover all their bases, Acer has listed drivers for all combinations they built that model with. You only need the driver for the components your computer was built with. The other drivers that are listed, but not one of your components can conflict with your driver. I hope that is clear. If you go to device manager and expand wireless adapter for instance, you will see either Broadcom or Atheros wireless adaptor. That is the only one you need to install. Same with many of the other ones. This is not uncommon for OEMs, but is quite confusing for most people who don't understand that.

Well, I have installed only the drivers which are needed. No double drivers. No useless ones either. I have also not installed manufacturer's touchpad drivers for over two years, windows drivers work fine. Device manager shows no errors.

I have re-installed my VGA driver and components which worked along with it.
I have also changed keyboard and mouse (both usb) to make sure it's not one of them.

I have downloaded all the updates and installed them today.

No BSOD for 24h now. It happened only once or twice a day tho.

thru, would you please open a elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.
Run it and if it finds errors, close the program and reboot the computer, then run it again, up to 3 times. it may take 3 times to say windows found no integrity violations.

then run this again, it is not completing properly and some files appear to be corrupt.

Sfc found nothing. Everything seems fine.

My netbook is working for nearly 24 hours and no BSOD so far.
Well, I will save us some work. I will wait a bit. If there wont be any BSOD I will switch back to my old keyboard&mouse. If it wont cause and BSOD I will plug the new microphone and wait for it.

If there will meet any BSOD which wont be connected to input devices I will let you know.

I am not sure if re-installing VGA driver and C++ packages (which is used by that driver) have helped or it's because of switching USB devices or simply some luck.

I will mark the thread as solved for now until I get a new BSOD.

Thank you for your time Jedi Master essenbe!

I would suggest you do them one at a time and test it after each one so if you get a BSOD, you will know which one it is, assuming you get no BSOD before hand. I am not sure I did very much to help you, but thanks anyway.
