Recently I decided to try overclocking my CPU, my motherboard (An ASUS P8z68-V Pro) comes with Windows software to allow this. The software would not load, and the ASUS website had a handy patcher that would patch *something* to allow newer versions of the software to work. Every since installing this patch I have been experiencing random BSODs and lowered performance in games and Windows in general. Worth mentioning that I have no actually oced the system at this point as the software still will not install, and the patcher does not have an uninstall option and has not changed anything readily obvious to me. In addition to this Planetside 2 is showing far lower performance and far higher instances of crashing than before, and other games refuse to run altogether. SF Diag Tool files are attached.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall the program at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :

  • Double click to open it.
  • Click this button only:
  • 2012-12-13_224441.jpg
  • If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
You have 29 programs stored at Startup. Free up the startup.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept the restart.
As it is crashing in attempt to overclock, let it be free from overclocking. Also, some crashing systems cannot stand SpyBot installed. As a test, you may uninstall it, Too. As you have MSE and MBAM installed, that is enough of security.

Let us know the results.
