My new laptop keeps crashing intermittently. I've tried uninstalling a few programs that I recently added and that doesn't help. I updated drivers and that didn't help either. I ran my antivirus and it came up empty. It's been happening probably 10 times a day for the past 3 or 4 days. this laptop is only a little over a week old and I already moved into and got comfy. I'm REALLY not trying to return it and move in all over again. Maybe you guys can help me out.

Is Windows 7 . . . yes
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64
- the original installed OS on the system? Yes
- an OEM or full retail version? OEM
- What is the age of system (hardware)? Little over 2 weeks
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) Little over 2 weeks, no re-install

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel Core i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz
RAM: 3947 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M, 1024 Mb
Motherboard: Acer, JV51_HR
Antivirus: avast! Antivirus, Updated and Enabled, ZoneAlarm Firewall

I hope I did everything right.

Thanks in advance

Oh, and here's a pic of my crash screen, don't know if it helps, but might as well post it.

Hi -

The RAR file contains the jcgriff2 BSOD executable file - not the output.

Please go to Documents and zip up the entire Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 folder & attach to your next post.

Hi -

All 18 dumps had the same bugcheck. 17/18 named Microsoft OS networking related driver NETIO.sys as the probable cause, but it is NOT the cause, rather a default -
http://sysnative.com/drivers/driver.php?id=NETIO.sys

The very 1st BSOD on the day Windows 7 was installed named Zone Alarm -
Code:
[font=lucida console]vsdatant.sys     Fri May 06 01:31:14 2011 (4DC387A2)[/font]
http://sysnative.com/drivers/driver.php?id=vsdatant.sys

Remove Z/A with removal tool - http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN146

You also have McAfee and Avast installed -

Code:
[font=lucida console]aswFsBlk.SYS     Mon Nov 28 12:51:52 2011 (4ED3CA38) - Avast
aswMonFlt.sys Mon Nov 28 12:52:10 2011 (4ED3CA4A)
aswRdr.SYS Mon Nov 28 12:52:20 2011 (4ED3CA54)
aswSnx.SYS Mon Nov 28 12:54:05 2011 (4ED3CABD)
aswSP.SYS Mon Nov 28 12:53:57 2011 (4ED3CAB5)
aswTdi.SYS Mon Nov 28 12:52:18 2011 (4ED3CA52)

mfeavfk.sys Wed Mar 02 19:02:29 2011 (4D6EDA95) - McAfee
mfefirek.sys Wed Mar 02 19:05:07 2011 (4D6EDB33)
mfehidk.sys Wed Mar 02 19:01:10 2011 (4D6EDA46)
mfewfpk.sys Wed Mar 02 19:01:25 2011 (4D6EDA55)[/font]

Remove both with removal tool - http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN146

Reboot after EACH removal.

When all 3 are gone, reinstall Avast or install MSE (my preference).

You should not have >1 a/v installed. If need be, supplement with online scans -
- Kaspersky - http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
- ESET - http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/index.php
- McAfee - http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/free-tools/freescan.aspx

Thanks for the detailed reply! I uninstalled everything with the tools you posted, and installed WSE as you suggested. Hopefully that takes care of my issues. I had actually forgot McAffe was on my computer. One of the first things I did when I got the computer was uninstall McAffe, but I guess it stays in the system even though it's uninstalled?

Anyways, thanks again. Hope this works.

Hi -

McAfee and the other Internet Security Suites can be somewhat difficult to completely remove.

I do believe that one or possibly the combination of all 3 led to NETIO.SYS being listed in the 17 dumps... but you will be the final judge!

Please post back when you can in a few days and let us know if the BSOD epidemic is over. I would really appreciate it.

Enjoy your new system.

Regards. . .

Well my computer hasn't crashed all day, So I think that's a very good sign. I will report back in a few days to verify things are still running smooth.

Another thing, I don't know if it's just a placebo affect or what, but it seems like the system as a whole is running slightly smoother too. Who knows, probably just my mind playing tricks on me.

Honestly, I would expect the system to be faster and more responsive now that the triplet a/v cocktail & their firewalls are gone.

Been a week and no problems what so ever. Thanks a bunch.

On a side and possibly related note, I was having a lot of lag with my wireless mouse, I mean a lot of lag, at times anyways. I don't know if it happened at the same time, but my mouse hasn't lagged at all, since seemingly around the same time the computer got fixed.
