BSOD Randomly (unable to capture error before restarting system)

At random times, I get that much hated Blue Screen of Death. I can be running any number of programs and walk away and come back and there the screen is blue. I have tried to keep my PC up to date, I run the latest Avast Internet Security Suite - just looking for some guidance on how to stop these issues, as this is our main work station in our office (we are graphic designers/3d texture artists) so we run some memory intensive programs, but the machine is not old, so I am kind of perplexed as to why this is happening.
