Any advice on what memory I need to replace do I need to replace both sticks and if not will the new 4gb one be compatible with the 2gb one I have any help appreciated thanks

You should pick 2x2GB or 2x4GB, if you prefer that. But remember, always use the same model of RAM or else it can cause errors.
