BSOD soon after starting up, STOP 0x00000F4

My Lenovo Y470 laptop has been experiencing BSODs with increasing frequency in the past month. It used to be once every 4 days or so at the start, now it's occurring almost every time i boot up. Though, if i manage to boot up smoothly and all is well within the first 10 minutes, it will not BSOD for the rest of my day's usage (7 hours or so).

Error in Blue Screen is STOP 0x00000F4.

Things i've noticed:
desktop screen will lock up and the taskbar will disappear, then sometimes
1) Microsoft Security Essentials pops up from the bottom right showing a red bar, indicating it has stopped real-time protection.
2) if it doesn't blue screen, pressing caps lock will make the light light up but nothing works. Ctrl + Alt + Del only makes the screen go black and come back on again. Have to hard reset.

Occasionally after BSOD reboot it will run CHKDSK which i let it and it completes itself smoothly.

A stop 0xF4, as far as I have seen, is caused by storage environment. That means:

• A failing storage device (HDD/SSD).
• Backdated SSD dirmware.
• Unstable or backdated Storage controller driver.
• Seating problem (SATA/Power/screw).
• SATA port on the motherboard.
• A storage filter of an Antivirus.
• A virus.

Here we have some notion of a virus, as MSE is stopping working, and ...... for this:

But none of the BSODs we are obtaining in the zip are stop 0xF4.

One is BugCheck C000021A, WINLOGON_FATAL_ERROR that means The Winlogon process terminated unexpectedly. It happens due to any hardware change, or hardware/driver corruption.

The other one is BugCheck 116, VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE, caused by a very old display driver.

My suggestion to you would be to test your HDDs with Seatools for DOS at first.

If all is well, opt for a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html as it will be easier than determining issues and failing components one by one (there may be a lot depending on the age of the device) and rectifying them.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply.

I ran the seagate tool and immediately my music jammed and all my programs slowly closed one by one. Is this normal? Now my screen is just wallpaper + rainmeter widgets with no taskbar. It also doesn't respond to me pressing ctrl alt del. It's just like what happens when my computer hangs without BSOD.


edit: before this I ran crystaldiskinfo which showed caution and a C5 and C6 error. This pertains to

Tried running seatools again. Computer hanged and BSODed when test started.
