Odd, I didn't notice this before.
It indicates that the battery of the cmos needs to be replaced.

I have disassembled the laptop and am replacing the cmos battery. Is there anything else on the hardware side to be checked before i put it back together?

Difficult to say from my side as I don't know what could be wrong.
I hope you have grounded yourself before opening your laptop.

Replaced Cmos battery. But there isnt any difference

While running the tests a video test failed.
Video- failure while writing and reading video .Error code - 5300:0119

After reinstalling AMD drivers the system crashes with the same 00116 BSOD during boot.

Hi again Axe,

I disassembled my laptop again and reapplied thermal paste on the processor and gpu and the screen suddenly lit up and seems to be working fine. Though at times it shows four vertical bands across the screen. I upgraded to Windows 10 and there was some atikmpag.sys error again but windows did some correction automatically and the display seems to be working fine.

Though I noticed the display adapter properties show Microsoft Basic Display Adapter has been disabled. It works fine this way but I am not being able to update to the AMD drivers. It does not boot succesfully after installing new drivers.

Kindly help.

I am sorry to say this, but if you indeed have done the upgrade to Windows 10 as you say then my request to you is to make a new thread at BSOD Crashes and Debugging - Windows 10 Forums because the Windows 7 Help Forums is only for Windows 7 users.

By the way I uninstalled AMD drivers using AMD uninstall utility, restarted and installed the latest drivers from AMD Support site (applicable for Windows 10 by searching manually) and my laptop seems brand new (no more vertical bands on screen too). SFC /SCANNOW which used to get stuck at 28%, no matter what, seems to reach 100% now

Surprisingly the laptop has become super quiet too.

P.S - Lessons Learnt:

1) Cleaning fan vents make your laptop quiet and cooler
2) Even the slightest air gap between the GPU and the heat sink can lead you to a black screen and a 8 beep code at startup (Even though Dell beep code diagnostics indicate it as a lcd failure).
3) Using the right amount of thermal paste is important. Less or more can lead to problems.
3) Even a single missing screw on the motherboard can lead to electrical short problems
4) Update BIOS, version by version.. most support sites show the latest BIOS versions only and people often jump from a very old version to the latest version which can create problems.
5)Win 7 to Win 10 upgrade may not work even if you turn off your antivirus. You need to uninstall it completely and upgrade in such cases.
6) Forums such as this can easily help you sort out your problems, so think twice before throwing away your laptop/pc and wasting money buying a new one.
7) A month ago, my screen wouldn't turn on, there was no sound, external monitor would get connected only in the first 5 seconds and would show all kinda multicolour lines on the screen (vertical lines of death). But now everything is back to normal and seems brand new. So.. NEVER GIVE UP
