BSOD - System Still Turns Off Instead of Sleeping

About a year ago I build a home brew desktop PC. I am running Windows 7 Professional, I7 processor, Asus P6T Deluxe Ver. 2 motherboard, 6gb ram, ATI Radeon 5700 series video card.

Occasionally, in the past when the PC would sleep it would not wake up when I pressed the keyboard and had to be restarted instead. Recently the problem has occurred more frequently. Now, it happens every time the PC goes to sleep. I have never made any adjustments to my BIOS. I am using a balanced desktop power scheme. I tried updating my video driver but that did not change the PC's behavior. I also tried changing my power settings to never letting the system sleep and it did not power down overnight, so the problem is definitely something that only happens when it tries to go to sleep but shuts down instead.

I get the following error message from Windows upon reboot:
Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48
Locale ID: 1033

1-ASACPI.SYS a major cause of BSOD's in the 2005 rev.

The 2005 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.
Please visit this link: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- download_item_mkt
Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit " (it's about the 8th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).

2-SPTD.SYS the second biggest cause used by daemon tools and alcohol120

How To Find Drivers:

- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
