Hey guys,

I have had several issues with my computer today. I was watching something on youtube earlier and my computer become unresponsive but I could move the mouse. Tried bringing up task manager but nothing happened. after a couple minutes I reset the computer. Well when it rebooted I got an error message for stating windows could not load as a file was missing and to run repair off the win 7 disk. Threw in the disk and after a little bit I found out that my computer did not detect my main SSD hd which the OS was installed on but only saw my slave HD. I disconnected the slave drive and powered up and everything loaded up fine. Reconnected the slave hd and powered up again and everything was fine again. Now after so long I will get a BSOD with the error code 0x000000f4. Which I have to reset the computer disconnect the slave hd then reconnect it then restart. Now I Have noticed that I will have a browser (IE and/or firefox) open when I get the bsod. I do not have any dump files as it just hangs on initializing.

I'm not sure if its related but I did have a bsod on the third and have the file on that but i'm not sure what info you guys would need from it nor how to extract.

FYI - I have not installed any new hardware/software lately.

system info- i5 2500k 3.3, win 7 64 bit, 1 60g ssd which os is installed, 1 tb storage drive, 12 gb ram

any help you guys can provide will be greatly appreciated!

To debug a stop 0xF4, we need some more information. But if you cannot boot into windows, it will not be possible.

Remove the secondary HDD for the time being. Then Follow it:
Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

Let us know if you can start the computer normally after it or not.

Arc,

thanks for the reply. I can start the computer up normally, I am replying to you on it. Basically what happens is I will get a bsod with the f4 code stated and hang on it and not gather any info in a dump which causes me to have to restart. I have to power the computer off and disconnect/reconnect the sata cable to the slave hd otherwise it doesn't recognize my master ssd drive with my os on it (which would give me the boot error in the pic above). In my mind I'm thinking that there may be something wrong with my ssd drive which causes the bsod and the drive to be non detectable? But why would it show back up by unplugging the slave drive and then re-plugging it? Not sure it has to do with the browser anymore as I left the computer on last night just on the desktop with no open programs and I woke up to it on the same BSOD.

No BSOD lately.

View attachment 290646

Follow it: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Ok so I have had 2 bsod since last post and doing what was advised to capture the logs. However, it has not saved either. I let it stay on the screen for some time but nothing is happening and it doesn't move off of collecting data for dump. Could this have something to do with my ssd (os) drive basically disappearing when this happens? is there a way to have it write to my storage drive or will the fact that the os drive is disappearing just hamper any attempt at collecting data?

OK, now let us try something different.

First, make it sure that the Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC SSD is running with the up-to-date firmware. Firmware Update 070H is available in Crucial.com Product Downloads - Firmware Updates.

Next, get rid of intel rapid storage. First uninstall it from Control Panel > Programs and Features. Then Uninstall the driver from device manager.

  1. Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
  2. It will open the "computer management" window.
  3. Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
  4. Expand "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
  5. Select one Intel device item under it, right click, uninstall.
  6. Continue the process for all Intel items under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
  7. Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate native system driver.
New let us know the situation.

So I tried it and deleted the one Intel controller found (included picture), reset computer and immediately got a bsod. rebooted again and it finished the driver install. Tested out by surfing web on IE and after about 30 minutes IE becomes non responsive. I can still move the curser but nothing in the IE window or windows related responds (start menu, quick launch bar, etc.). After about 10 minutes the screen goes black then about 5 minutes after that I get the bsod. Same error code as before, isn't collecting dump info its just frozen, and there are no files in minidump.

At that point of time you should opt for a clean install.

Without seeing the necessary files, the troubleshooting will go to nowhere.

There was one this morning. But it was not the like the original issue I was facing (not being able to boot windows without unplugging my slave drive). It was a normal one that saved a dump file and I was able to reset it normally. I attached the dmp file this morning.

You know, it is always better to update your BIOS too, alongwith the HDD firmware. Try to install the BIOS version F12 dated 2012/03/21 (your present one is F10). GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (rev. 1.0)

F12 is not the latest, the latest one is U1L, but not suggesting it to you as it is a UEFI BIOS. It may be complicated for you with an existing installation.
