BSOD w/ AMD 890FX Chipset

Unfortunately, updating those drivers did not fix the issue, nor did running with only one RAM stick. When I was swapping out the RAM however, I noticed that my motherboard was undervolting it slightly (0.15V). I manually set the RAM to the correct voltage, and ran a stability test with Prime95 (blend) for 24 hours without error. Following that, I had the computer play videos off the internet (to simulate day to day use) for 24 hours, again with no error. Thinking all was well, I reinstalled the OS onto the correct drive, and installed all the drivers that had not given me issues in the past, as well as downloading and installing windows updates. Unfortunately, within a few hours, I got another BSOD (report is attached, and driver verifier was enabled during this time). I reran Prime95 (small FFT) for 24 hours and again got no errors.

I'm tempted to try reinstalling the OS again, but before I did that I wanted to get your thoughts. Is it possible that I'm still having a hardware failure, and Prime95/Memtest86+ isn't catching it? Or is this latest BSOD due to software issues?

This not a Driver verifier enabled dump.

Error code 3B, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. Usual causes - System service, Device driver, graphics driver, ?memory

The dump blames a Windows core system driver, which is very likely not the real cause. It indicates memory corruption and "OVERLAPPED_MODULE: Address regions for 'udfs' and 'WUDFRd.sys' overlap".

Since your RAM passed Memtest andand Prime and you CPU passed Prime, that indicates that these are probably OK. To answer your question, yes it is possible there is a hardware failure that Memtest and Prime are not catching; but I think it is a driver issue.

Another driver is implicated as being involved in the crash as an unloaded driver, AODDriver2.sys. The AODDriver2.sys appears to be from AMD Overdrive so I would suggest to uninstall this software if we cannot solve the problem by updating out of date drivers.

I still find two out of date drivers. Try to update these drivers and lets see what happens. The rest of your drivers look good.

If after updating these drivers, you are still having problems. I will get one of the hardware experts to look at this thread. I am not an expert, by any means, on RAID and AHCI.

When I was installing the chipset drivers and performing the windows updates, I had driver verifier enabled. After I had finished with them all and had no problems, I disabled driver verifier. When I had the BSOD, I had not made any changes to my system; after I had the BSOD I reenabled driver verifier (without issue).

AMD does not have the drivers on their website (or if they do, I can't seem to find them), so I've been downloading the most recent drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website; I assumed they were the most recent. Could you tell me what part of the BSOD report you've been looking at to find the out of date drivers? I skimmed through a couple but couldn't find them.

The drivers do not show unless you run a KD command. I use "lmtsmn" which puts the drivers in alphabetical order. This what the driver report looks like:

MSI posted updated versions of the chipset drivers this past week; after installing them I have yet to have any issues whatsoever (4 days without a BSOD). It seems like that has fixed my problem, thanks for your help.

Well this is embarrassing... I have no issues for 4 days straight so I post as much on the forum, only to get a BSOD the next morning. I think my computer is just toying with me now...I've attached the BSOD report. I happened to notice that an A4A510BU IDE Controller is listed in device manager with an unknown, unsigned driver. I've never seen this before and have no idea what it is. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've gone ahead and removed SPTD. The BSODs are happening infrequently, so I won't really know for a while whether or not that helped.

Unfortunately, I got another BSOD this morning. I've attached a report for all the BSOD's I've gotten with this latest install. The BSOD on 2010/28/10 was caused by me, so that one can be ignored. Any suggestions you have as to what could causing my problem are appreciated.

This is a Driver Verifier enabled dump and it blames a Windows Direct X driver which is very unlikely the real cause. Please turn Driver Verifier off for now. The dump shows that Norton/Symantec was involved in the crash and it could very well be the cause. Uninstall Norton/Symantec using this uninstall tool: Tool. Norton is well known for causing crashes on some Win 7 systems. The driver involved is outdated.

Use Microsoft Security Essentials for your antivirus and use Windows Firewall. Here are some other obsolete Norton Drivers loaded on your system.

Thanks, Carl. I've replaced Symantec with MSE. I won't be able to say for a while whether or not my system has been fixed (as the BSODs are difficult to reproduce), however the boot up after removing Symantec was noticeably smoother.

That is good news and a good sign. I think Symantec was a big part of, if not all of, your problem. Nice work. Let us know in a few more days.

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
        use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT
Arg2: 0000000080050031

Are you running a cracked version of Starcraft? If so, uninstall it. SC2.exe is blamed in this crash. Also, are you overclocking? If so, please return to default values.

I have run blend and small FFTs for 24 hours each with no errors. I've started the large FFT test, I'll let you know the results tomorrow. Thanks for your help.
