Hi

Today I got a BSOD randomly (as far as I could tell). I've had my comp for almost exactly a year, and this is the first I've gotten. Part of why I'm concerned is because the warranty is about to expire. Below is the window that popped up after restart, and attached is of course the file resulting from the SevenForums diagnostic as per the BSOD Posting Instructions.

Thanks!

The system crashed while the WebcamDell2 process was running. Have you done anything to your computer recently? Have you done a complete virus/malware scan recently?

Ok, I filled out my system specs and I ran a scan, but AVG didn't find anything.

I haven't done anything unusual to my computer recently. About the most risky thing I've done lately is download a .pdf off of 4shared, which was indeed a pdf, and was the size you'd expect.

Thanks for your help.

Also, for what it's worth, I filled out my specs using the window you get from right clicking on Computer and going to properties for what that tells, and from googling my model number and finding one with the same specs that I knew already. Everything looked like what I remembered, but admittedly, there's a chance it isn't the most reliable of methods. If it helps for faster or more complete reference, this is the site I used for reference.

Arg3: 0000000000000001, Reserved
Arg4: 0000000000000001, Reserved
The reference count of an object is illegal for the current state of the object.
Each time a driver uses a pointer to an object the driver calls a kernel routine
to increment the reference count of the object. When the driver is done with the
pointer the driver calls another kernel routine to decrement the reference count.
Drivers must match calls to the increment and decrement routines. This bugcheck
can occur because an object's reference count goes to zero while there are still
open handles to the object, in which case the fourth parameter indicates the number
of opened handles. It may also occur when the object’s reference count drops below zero
whether or not there are open handles to the object, and in that case the fourth parameter
contains the actual value of the pointer references count.

Have you been trying to upload to YouTube? YouTube searches webcams in the process and gives you the option to record with them. If you have clicked on "Yes" instead of "No", maybe just accidentally, it will start your webcam.
Another option is that your webcam is always running, as a background process or something similar.

I haven't tried to upload to YouTube, but I think it may be the case that my webcam is always running.

I went to the program Dell gives me for the webcam and don't really see a menu where I could change that. Could I do so another way?

Also, do I need to worry that my computer could be unstable when I'm using my webcam actively in the future?

Okay,

What I'd like you to try is booting into Safe Mode with Networking, it'll look a little weird, but use that mode, and go to YT, and watch the video that caused your machine to crash.

If you can't remember which one it was just pick a high quality one, and see if you get a BSOD.

If you do not then you should reinstall your video card software/drivers.

Once done, restart in regular mode, try the YT video, and see if that takes care of it.

If you need help with that on the dell site or if you have the OEM disk let me know, and I'll try to walk you through.

I can stick around for a little while, but it is getting late for me.

Strange. I went to play the YT video and first noticed that I didn't have sound. My computer's audio was turned off, and when I went to turn it on, it said it was looking for a solution to a problem, and eventually said it was unable to resolve it. I don't know whether that's something that Safe Mode does, but if not, weird.

Second, when I went to play the video, it only went about 3 seconds in then stopped. I wasn't sure whether I was watching it embedded into the website I watched it from or not, but when I tried to watch it from the site where it was embedded it went to 3 seconds, and when I tried to watch it in YT itself, it started playing an added and got 3-4 seconds in before stopped that.

Also, I wanted to add something that I hadn't thought of before, which is that before I got the BSOD previously, the YT video stopped at a point on two different videos. I refreshed the first and it did fine, and it may have been when (or else it was after) I refreshed the second that I got the BSOD. I assumed at the time that it was a matter of having content loaded or YT being glitchy or something, but it was a bit surprising because the bar at the bottom showed the whole video loaded, and it seemed a bit different from when YT videos have stopped part way through to finish loading in the past.

I haven't tried to upload to YouTube, but I think it may be the case that my webcam is always running.

I went to the program Dell gives me for the webcam and don't really see a menu where I could change that. Could I do so another way?
Task Manager\Process Tab\ Look for Dell webcam manager exe file, selected it and press end process.

A more permanent solution is to go to Services, and look for Dell webcam, and set it to Manual or Disable.

Also, do I need to worry that my computer could be unstable when I'm using my webcam actively in the future?
The former above will restart your cam when you restart your machine, the latter (manual) only when you click on the webcam to start it.
Disable means disabled, and you have to go back in to reset it to manual or auto, auto (delayed) to get it to run.

With the minimal set of drivers its possible the sound was considered non-essential. There were no problems listed on your dxdiag sound report.

Have you ever checked your machine against whatever Dell has for a support or update manager to see if you can get any updated drivers?

Did your machine ever come with McAfee?

I haven't checked for updates. From what I see of the Dell site at the moment, it doesn't look like it checks your computer, but I can download all of the drivers to make sure everything is updated.

I'm not certain, but I think my computer did initially come with McAfee. I bought it at Best Buy and was given a free subscription to Kaspersky for a time though, so I took McAfee off and used Kaspersky until it ran out, then got the free version of AVG which I've used since.

Its not listed here: https://www.dell.com/support/driver...mbs=Product+Type@,Laptops@,Inspiron&rquery=na

So you would have to start here: https://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/ProductSelector/Select/ProductSelectorHome?rquery=na, for the update manager, and drill down. They don't make it easy.

Try running these to remove McAfee:
Here's the direct link: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS100507
or the download itself if that link doesn't work: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
Reboot immediately after running MCPR. If it will not finish, run it in safe mode.

When I go to download all of the updates together using the update manager, it downloads the update manager and then tells me to select updates (which I already did). So instead, I'm having to download and install them one at a time. It seems like this could take a bit, so if you need to get to bed, I completely understand.
