Solved BSOD when gaming/screen sleeps

Hello all,

First of all, I must say, I have always been an avid "searcher" of these forums for answers but I have come to the point where I need some assistance. I built a new PC and keep getting a BSOD when trying to game or when the PC goes to sleep. I have a feeling it has to do with the wireless Xbox controller that I am using but I downloaded all of the drivers straight off of Microsoft's site. All of the tweaks I have done to the PC have been stress tested so I really don't think it is hardware related. Attached is the SF outfile. Please uninstall all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program. Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page) Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure

MSINFO32:
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

Use the System File Checker tool and Run Disk Check:

Thank you for the quick reply. I have followed most of your suggestions to a "T" and haven't seen the BSOD again since. The only issue I found was after leaving Memtest86 run while I was at work I found many memory errors. I discovered that one of my memory timings was incorrect. I'm now running the Memtest session again and so far I am 3.5 hours in with 2 passes and 0 errors. I did try playing Battlefield 3 again and while it didn't BSOD this time, I do consistently get kicked out between 30 seconds and 3 minutes of game play. I will retrieve the MSInfo report for you tomorrow morning after this Memtest has run all evening.

Koolkat,

I ended up running Memtest for 12.5 hours with no errors. While my BSOD issues seem to be behind me, I am still having issues with games crashing on me (approx 30 sec-3 min into the game). I did some searching and think it has something to do with my video card drivers. I ran a HWMonitor session during a game and the GPU got up to about 70 degrees C so it wasn't really that hot.

Regardless, I have attached the MSconfig files for review. Thanks again for your help with these frustrating issues.

Your Antivirus software is basically whats just needed there.

Are you overclocking any hardware?

I don't know how you installed your drivers, but this is how I do it. Go to AMD and select the current WHQL driver, and download to your desktop. Download and install Driver Sweeper. Run the driver you just downloaded, when you get set up, there will be a choice to install or uninstall, select uninstall. When completed it will ask you to reboot, do so. Then reboot again into safe mode. Once in safe mode, run driver sweeper, select only AMD display drivers, and click analyze, once it is finished, click clean. It will tell you to reboot, do so and reboot into normal mode. Run the new AMD driver again. This time choose install. When it completes it will say reboot. Reboot and you should have as clean a driver install as you can get. The problem lies sometimes in remnants of 2 or more drivers left over from previous installs. Also, when you install Driver Sweeper, be careful of all the unwanted programs they want to install with it. Just uncheck them/decline them all. See if that improves your game play. As Koolkat said, if you are overclocking, set everything back to defaults.

Thanks for the replies. As far as overclocking, I only have the NB overclocked from 2200-2600 and the cores from 4000 to 4600 (on 1.38 volts). I have stress tested this configuration on Prime95 for half an hour and it didn't produce errors but I have yet to do a long stress test.

I tried cleaning out the old graphics drivers and installing the latest ones without the Catalyst software (using Koolkat's instructions above). Literally 3 seconds into a Multiplayer session on Battlefield 3, the application was freezing (requiring an end-task). I will save my overclock profile and revert to default to see if this works. If it doesn't, I am out of ideas.

Edit: I loaded my stock profile for the overclock and it worked perfectly. There is obviously something wrong with my settings and they aren't as stable as I first thought. Thanks for all of your help guys and please close this thread.
