When I go to press the play button on the splash screen of the game, I get a blue screen that reads:

PAGEFAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

I've tried reinstalling, but that didn't work. When I re-installed, I didn't remove everything. I ran the system file checker as suggested by someone over at Yahoo! Answers, that didn't work either. So now I'm turning to you guys. I don't want to completely re-install without at least trying to troubleshoot first. The game takes awhile to re-download.

here's the zip folder:

Not the best security software. Please uninstall for troubleshooting purpose:

Code:

Removal Tools:
Microsoft Security Essentials.
Recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability compared to other antiviruses/internet security software. It is free and lightweight:-
   Warning
:ar: Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

System Optimisers

Please remove the following software:
Code:
[FONT=Courier New][SIZE=3]Advanced SystemCare 5    "c:\program files (x86)\iobit\advanced systemcare 5\asctray.exe" /autostart    user-PC\user    HKU\S-1-5-21-1524752268-1942279602-8085283-1000\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run[/SIZE][/FONT]

This software is a known cause of BSOD's. The windows 7 operating system does not require these registry cleaning software. They often tune-down rather than tune-up and can wreck the OS beyond repair. Microsoft have improved Windows 7 significantly and it is much better at organising and optimising itself than its predecessors. Check this, this and this thread for evidence.

If you feel the need to use a registry cleaning or optimisation software, most of us recommend the use of CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download but make sure you back up the registry before making letting ccleaner delete anything.

Perform a System File Check:
  1. Click on the start :orb:
  2. Type CMD on Search
  3. Left click and Run as Administrator
  4. Type SFC /scannow
Full tutorial here:
Reduce items at start-up. Nothing except anti-virus is required:
Install all updates including Service Pack 1:

Code:
Version 6.1.7600 Build 7600
Update your NVIDIA drivers:
Code:
[FONT=Courier New][SIZE=3]Driver    c:\windows\system32\drivers\nvlddmkm.sys (8.17.12.6724, 12.36 MB (12,962,792 bytes), 2/23/2011 7:28 AM)[/SIZE][/FONT]
METHOD:

Click on the Start :orb: ► Control Panel ► Programs ► Uninstall a program ► Uninstall everything related to "NVIDIA" and reboot the system. Delete remnants of its drivers/older drivers using Driver Sweeper.

I did downgrade the display link driver to 6.0, still didn't want to run, running the intel driver update tool as I'm posting this response. When it says "Analyzing computer" how long does the process take? I'm not sure if its working, or if it's hanging..

I also uninstalled Avira, Advanced Sys Care and Spybot.

Also just recently updated my Nvidia drivers.

Not that I'm aware of. All of my other games work alright, and yeah it blue screened. I just ran a disk check, there were no problems detected.

Ok, so I just tried to install Service Pack 1, and it tells me that the installation was not successful. There's an error message that reads "Element not found" What now? Is it because I just ran the setup and not all the extra files needed? All I did was run the setup file from a zipped file, it extracted it, and I just ran the setup that way. I didn't create a folder or anything for it on the desktop

Gonna try the setup one last time. Clicked on an x64 setup file instead of just the file called "setup" which was the file I clicked last time. After that I will use those instructions if it fails again this time.

I did run windows udpdate, and installed a few updates, but I didn't see the service pack 1 update displayed on there.

Update: failed again. Next post will be from that link above.

Oh ok. Will do that tomorrow and finish off the rest of the updates, it says I have 31.

Update: Even after installing all those updates, again it failed. I'll run that MGADiag tool.

So how is it going, what do you mean by failed? are you having blue screens if so you need to keep uploading the files so we can look at them
Looking back through how did you get on with previous suggestions ?
No mention of the sfc scan suggested earlier, did you run it
Did you reduce startup items also ?

We can only give suggestions of things to help, if you try them and you get another crash we need to see the new dump files after the actions were performed so we can try to help you narrow it down, also please try to be a bit more descriptive in your replies its hard to understand what you have and havent tried :)

Hey everyone. What I mean by it failing is that I had gotten the same "element not found" message, even after installing all of my windows updates. My computer proceeded to install SP1 but with no such luck. Reconfiguration failed and it reverted the changes.

I figure that perhaps all the updates I installed might perhaps stop the blue screen. I haven't touched the game yet after all my updates installed. Maybe the problem I've been having is fixed now. I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed. I will make another post to update.
