BSOD when opening applications

First and foremost I must apologise, I am severely lacking in PC knowledge and thus want to apologise in advance if I miss some key information.

I was playing the Witcher 3 recently, I don't usually use my computer for gaming and as such I forgot that it has a tendency to overheat. Eventually the game crashed and I was unable to tab or end the application and I realised the temperature had reach >60 degrees (Celsius). I had to hold the power button to shut it down which I know causes issues.

After I booted the PC back up it would BSoD every time I logged in, after the temperature cooled down I was able to log in but all of my applications that boot on start up don't work, my flash player in chrome crashes instantaneously however I am able to run videos on VLC media player and finally I am unable to start any games. My computer works fine in safe mode.

Reading the forums I did a few things, firstly doing sfc /scannow I got:
"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them"
"Details included in CBS.Log Windir/Logs/CBS/CBS.log"

I checked the CBS log but obviously didn't really understand it, its larger than 2mb limit but I can create a new file with the most recent logs if that would be helpful

Additionally I tried the system restore function but it didn't solve my issues.

Any help you could provide would be much appreciated and apologies if I missed any key information

Akiba101, I am not getting much from the dumps you have. You have no recent dumps. Please make sure your system is configured for small memory dumps. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html. The most recent dump was in April, and this is what it said.

Code:
Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.
BugCheck 10D, {5, 0, 1024, fffffa8009dcfe40}
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for xusb21.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for xusb21.sys
Probably caused by : xusb21.sys ( xusb21+2888 )
Followup: MachineOwner

That is a XBox USB wireless controller. BSOD issues in Win7 with 2009 driver (found in mid-2012). I would suggest you update the driver if you can. You also have Dameon Tools installed which is a known cause of BSODs, please uninstall it.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause of BSOD's.

1. Uninstall Daemon Tools.
2. Download the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
- Double click the executable to open it
- Click the button shown below

If the button it is grayed out, as shown in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can just close the window.

I know you said you ran it, but please open an elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

Also, please go to your Motherboard web site and see if you can find updated drivers.

It is OK if you don't understand computers, no need to apologize. 60°C is not hot at all. Your system did not shut down because of that temp. But, I would like you to download temp monitoring programs for the CPU and GPU and keep track of them at all times. I would also like you to try reinstalling your graphics drivers. Please use the method in this tutorial, http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/327414-nvidia-drivers-avoid-problems.html. Any additional details you could provide in your system specs would be helpful. We often need to look up a component and Manufacturer and Model is necessary to do that. Please include your PSU and CPU cooler too, as well as anything connected to the PC other than keyboard and mouse.

Thank you for the reply

To begin I configured my system for small dumps and got the following dumps below.

I uninstalled Daemon Tools as a precautionary measure although I'm certain that its not the cause of the most recent crashes because they still persist. Additionally I did as you said and tried the sfc /scannow 3 times all running as admin and received the same error that they could not be repaired.

Most of my details are in my profile except my:

PSU: Corsair TX650
CPU Cooler: Not really sure how to check that(Sorry)

The motherboard drivers seem to be up to date.

In regards to the reinstalling of my graphics drivers, I am unable to open my windows update for some reason, possible because its in safe mode I'm really not sure, it doesn't show in my control panel and even when I isolate the exe itself and try running as admin it does nothing? So I'm not going to proceed until I can figure that out.

Once again thanks!

Make sure you have the latest firmware update for your Revo Drive. There were a lot of NTFS errors along the way too, which is the file system for Windows.

Please open an elevated command prompt and enter this into the window and press enter

Code:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

That should put a file, CBSdetails.txt on your desktop. Please right click it, select send to > Compressed Zip folder and upload it with your next post.

Once again thank you for the reply

I did as you asked and the firmware for the REVOdrive is up to date

As far as the command prompt, it created an SFCdetails.txt file not a CBSdetails.txt, apologies if I did anything wrong but I made sure to copy and paste it correctly. I'll post the sfcdetails.txt file and wait for further instructions

Both are your AVG anti Virus.

I would suggest uninstalling AVG and use the AVG Removal Tool AVG | Download tools and utilities and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials (Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows) . Is there any way to test your RevoDrive? I would think OCZ has some test they recommend for testing it.

I did as you recommended uninstalled AVG installed Windows Security Measures. However I got BSoD again about 2 minutes after starting it up in normal mode. Additionally what was strange was during boot up it offered windows repair function. I tried it the first time and got BSoD and the second time it got through but when I tried to repair it would just bring up and error message saying Windows is unable to repair. I believe something is seriously wrong with my Windows, here is the most recent BSoD

In addition to this as I mentioned before none of my applications will run at all, just trying to post on this forum in normal mode is impossible as ALL browsers will crash but thankfully not BSoD and my Windows Explorer.exe will randomly crash and then restart.

Again just to be clear for some reason NONE of this happens whilst in safe mode.

Hey

Just a quick update, BSoD still persists, although it now alternates between BSoD and just a generic freeze where I can't do anything and must restart the PC. Latest dump files below

Honestly I appreciate all the help but I think my only option now is to reinstall Windows. If anyone thinks there is anything more I can do I'll be more than willing to try but I will most likely close this thread and mark it as closed if nothing more can be done.

Go ahead and try the install just like the tutorial said, just make sure the clean install box is checked. We'll see what happens and go from there.

Uninstall Dameon Tools, it is a know cause of BSODs

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause of BSOD's.

1. Uninstall Daemon Tools.
2. Download the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
- Double click the executable to open it
- Click the button shown below

If the button it is grayed out, as shown in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can just close the window.

How much free space do you have on your hard drive? You are getting warning messages about low disk space.

Apologies for the late update, still getting BSoD although they occur about 10mins after booting up rather than instantly, once again dumps below.

As far as the DRVINST.EXE go, I had a look in my task manager and its not running but I found it under

C:/Windows/System32 , under details its says it is a Driver Installation Module, I certianly haven't intentionally run it before but beyond that I can't tell you much

Additionally the F: Drive is just a storage drive, I run Windows off my C: drive, I thought it was fine to have a Full storage drive but if you think deleting stuff off it might help I'm more than willing to do that.

Again I apologise for how tedious this must be for you guys, normally I would just reinstall Windows but I can't get access to a CD until the 15th hence I'm trying alternative methods. I really appreciate the advice you guys have given.
