BSOD when starting computer, usually after watching netflix

Hello,

I have done two re-formats on my computer attempting to get rid of this blue screen error, but it keeps coming back (almost instantly). I think it usually happens when I watch netflix and close the computer without shutting down first; but it has happened a few times when I wasn't previously watching netflix.

It only occurs when I'm starting the computer, but not every time.

The last time it happened, I kept ignoring the blue screen and it eventually got to the point where I wasn't able to use the computer (couldn't save files, wouldn't connect to internet, etc.).

Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. I attached my dump files, but to be perfectly honest, I don't know anything about fixing computers. So please baby step me through fixing it if you can :)

Thank you so much,
Shannon

Welcome aboard.

► You have two antivirus programs installed. AVG and McAfee. Your crash is directly blaming AVG.
Code:
fffff880`07c3c7c8 fffff880`06215796Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\avgidsdrivera.sys, Win32 error 0n2
[COLOR=Red]*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for avgidsdrivera.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for avgidsdrivera.sys
 avgidsdrivera+0x15796[/COLOR]
It is Driver Reference Table - avgidsdrivera.sys.

So you must to uninstall AVG. At the same time, McAfee is a higher level crap, and a very well known problem causer. Uninstall McAfee too. For best protection, use Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows, with Free MBAM.

► Also, Free up the startup.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept the restart.
► What I have also noticed, you have some old device drivers installed.

ATI Display Driver:
Code:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\atikmdag.sys (8.1.1.921, 5.76 MB (6,037,504 bytes), [COLOR=Red]8/18/2009[/COLOR] 6:48 AM)
Realtek ethernet driver:
Code:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\rt64win7.sys (7.13.112.2010, 317.53 KB (325,152 bytes), [COLOR=Red]10/25/2011[/COLOR] 2:05 AM)
If possible, try to update those, too.

Let us know the results.

Shannon,
Unfortunately the zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump at all. Have a look?

Hello,

Sorry about that, I'm not sure what I did wrong.

This time, I double checked the zip file had a bunch of .dmp files in it.

I also attached a (poor quality) picture of the blue screen image. I'm not sure that it will help at all, but I figured it wouldn't hurt. This time my computer blue screened 3 times before booting up. :/

Thank you again!

Dont worry, Shannon. This time you have it perfectly :) Let's hope to get some output.
I am suggesting you a couple of things, apply those, serially.

1) Have a virus scan. some evidences present in your dumps are making me think of virus, specially BIOS rootkit.

Do a full system scan with both of them, separately, one by one.

2) Disc Check. It will help you to get rid of ntfs.sys errors.
Code:
*******************************************************************************
*                                                                             *
*                        Bugcheck Analysis                                    *
*                                                                             *
*******************************************************************************

Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.

Hello,

I ran the full virus scans using both programs you suggested, but they both came up with my computer being free of virus and stating that it would be monitoring my computer.

But my computer blue screened again when I booted it.

.... :/

It is a stop 0x50.
STOP 0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREAhttp://www.carrona.org/bsodindx.html#top | Usual causes: Defective hardware (particularly memory - but not just RAM), Faulty system service, Antivirus, Device driver, NTFS corruption, BIOS.

So the suggestions are.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html
Run it for at lease eight passes, preferably overnight.

Uninstall Spybot and see if it changes the situation or not.

Search for a BIOS update:
Code:
BIOS Version/Date TOSHIBA 1.20,[COLOR=Red] 6/1/2010[/COLOR]

Disc Check!

  1. Reseat the sata and power.
  2. Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
  3. Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.
If all failed to get a result, we will go for Driver Verifier.
