I walked away from my computer and when I came back it had turned off. When I checked to see what had happened I found out it was a BSOD. Please help me find the reason behind the BSOD. Thank you very much!

Hi.

Download and install Drivers for Atheros AR9485WB and Windows 7.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.
Report us for any further BSOD after doing these two.

Hi Arc.
It may be a silly question, but do I just save the files to my computer or is there an actual installation of some sort? I have Winzip and it automatically opens the download, and it gives me the option to unzip all the file to a folder. Should I just do that? Thank you once again.

Hi again,

So I followed the installation steps, but a message stating the following popped out:

The best driver software for your device is already installed
Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date.
Atheros AR8161/8165 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)

Should I just leave it at that or are there additional steps I must follow?

If you ask device manager to update the driver itself, it will give you such a result, which is totally false.

Your installed driver:
Code:
    Image name: athrx.sys
[COLOR=Red]    Timestamp:        Wed Mar 21 19:12:59 2012[/COLOR] (4F69DAE3)
The suggested driver .... So you need to install the update. Follow Driver Install - Device Manager step by step.
