Solved BSOD while playing certain games

You'd need to find two kits exactly the same. You probably cannot mix and match your modules like you have without problems. I'm betting if you remove one pair, the other pair will work in your system without issues.

so, if the RAM was the problem, would completely removing all of it and having new modules installed fix the problem? also, I just recovered from a BSOD caused by ksthunk.sys

My Computer

OS

We need to test the current RAM to make sure it is the problem before moving to replacing it. Have you taken out one of the pairs of RAM?

Please upload the crash reports. ksthunk.sys is a Windows driver, so not likely the actual cause.

As you add and remove hardware, follow these steps for ESD safety:
  1. Shut down and turn off your computer.
  2. Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
  3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
  4. Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

I have absolutely no idea how to remove the RAM sticks, I don't even know how to open my computer up. I have less than minimal knowledge on the physical aspects of computers and only have experience with software. if you think removing them will be easy enough for me to figure out then I'll try it, but I doubt I'll be successful if I do.

I assume you're talking about the .dmp files when you say error reports.

The ksthunk.sys crashes are related to usb device driver issues. What USB devices do you have installed?

Code:
ASACPI.sys Mon Oct 30 20:09:12 [B][COLOR="Red"]2006[/COLOR][/B] (4546B048)
Older versions of ASACPI.SYS are a known BSOD problem on Windows 7. Update the driver by:
  1. Going to the Asus motherboard support site
    When you reach the website:
  2. Scroll down the page and click Utilities
  3. Hold Ctrl and press f (ctrl+f) to enter the browser's find feature
  4. Search for "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit" (without quotes)
  5. Download and install the driver.
  6. After installation is complete, verify that it installed correctly.
    • Click Start Menu
    • Click My Computer
    • Go to C:\WIndows\System32\drivers\
    • Verify that the ASACPI.SYS file is dated 2009 or newer (2010,etc.)

I am pretty sure there is an updated driver to the XBox 360 receiver.

the one I'm using is from 2009. I've been using the receiver with that driver since the day I got my PC so I don't think it's that. I don't really know what I'm talking about here, but is it possible that the usb device that's causing problems could be a ram stick? I'm not sure how they're hooked up but if they use USB then the evidence would certainly point to my RAM.

RAM modules are not USB...

I do not see an update for the XBox device, so I guess we will not worry about that for now. You do need to update the ASACPI driver though. That is a very important driver to update.

Also, make sure to update the nVidia nForce chipset drivers.

I updated ASACPI yesterday, and today I tried but the only ones I could find were older.

it seems like everything I've done has helped but I still get BSOD occasionally when playing minecraft. I would just stop playing it, but I'm afraid whatever the problem is may affect other games or just affect my PC in general.

here's one I just got a couple of minutes ago, the blue screen blamed it on dxgmms1.sys.

I got this one on a different game this time, unreal tournament 3, which I just installed today. I played for about 45 minutes on the same map and it eventually just gave me BSOD.

Still looks old. Where did you obtain the driver updated you tried to install?

from ASUS' website. both times I updated, the installer refused to run so I had to go into the folder and manually place the ASAPCI.sys that came with the installer into system32/drivers. I tried looking elsewhere for the driver but I could only find it on ASUS' website. if you know of somewhere else I can get it I will build you a shrine.

RE-EDIT: so I installed nforce chipset drivers, and it didn't improve my problem at all, however it did stop any BSODs that aren't caused by dxgmms1.sys. my dxgmms1.sys is up to date and I have direct x 11 and all of that, and searching through multiple forums I have concluded that the remaining problem is my graphics card. giving your knowledge of the subject and of my problems, do you think I'm correct in my assumption?

DirectX crashes point to the graphics card. Whether it is the hardware itself or just a driver issue is what we need to determine. It may be its driver is not working with the ASACPI driver. Try renaming your ASACPI.sys driver to ASACPI.sys.bak and then install (or copy if the installer will not work) using the installer. Also, make sure you get all instances of ASACPI.sys renamed and replaced. Search for it with an http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/783-elevated-command-prompt.html and type
Code:
cd ..
cd ..
dir /a /s ASACPI.sys

I renamed it to ASACPI.sys.bak then copied a new one in, and the elevated command prompt couldn't check my HDD because apparently ''volume drive C has no label''. I tried searching for other instances with the search bar in the start menu but it found none.

You didn't give it enough time. It takes a few minutes (or more if you have a lot on your C: drive; mine is only 93 GB full):

I waited longer than 3 minutes, it wouldn't make any progress. however, since renaming the driver and installing a new one, I haven't had a BSOD all day. I can't be sure just yet but it seems like it might be fixed.
