Solved BSOD while playing certain games

AMD sent a message to one of the users I was helping stating that the newer drivers may not work with the older cards. They are designed more for the 7000 series cards. They recommended going back to 10.6 to that user, but most new games require 11.7 or newer. If you do not have newer games, you could see if 10.6 will work, but you will probably want to start with 11.7 since that is what Microsoft recommends through Windows Updates.

I'm trying out 12.3 right now. my problems started happening around the time that 12.4 was released so if this is really the problem then this should fix it. my performance is a little better with 12.3 so I'm hoping everything else will work.

Why can't you re-install it?

I cannot tell if this is a hardware problem or a problem due to your Windows being corrupted. Windows can be corrupted in two ways:
  1. System files are corrupted and can be found using http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

  2. Registry keys are damaged and a repair or clean install is necessary; given the time since your last clean install, I would prefer a clean install.

I can't install it because I don't have the disk, it came already installed on my PC. I highly doubt this has anything to do with it, but the fan on my motherboard was broken and I just noticed it a few days ago. I already ran sfc scannow and it didn't find any errors.

Which fan was broken?

I had it built by a local computer store. it was the fan on the motherboard, and since I had it replaced this annoying ''boot fail'' problem that I had seems to be gone.
