Hi,

I randomly get the BSOD error 7a while surfing the internet or just leaving it idle.

I have no idea what causes it since it seems to be random.

Hello Jubjub89.

You tried Driver Verifier on 16th .... it was not actually needed. Both the other dumps of 16th indicating to the failing Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller driver.
Code:

And the driver is too old.

I would not suggest you to update it, as our experience says that updates to it will also be problematic. Get rid of intel rapid storage. First uninstall it from Control Panel > Programs and Features. Then Uninstall the driver from device manager.

  1. Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
  2. It will open the "computer management" window.
  3. Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
  4. Expand "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
  5. Select one Intel device item under it, right click, uninstall.
  6. Continue the process for all Intel items under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
  7. Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate native system driver.
When done, upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.

  1. Click on the start button
  2. Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
  3. File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
  4. Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
  5. Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
It will help us to check your success or otherwise to do the aforesaid.

So I want to suggest some further steps to you.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :

  • Double click to open it.
  • Click this button only:
  • 2012-12-13_224441.jpg
  • If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus and the touchpad driver, SynTPEnh.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.
Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download

  • Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.
Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.
Scan the system for possible virus infection with the following programs too, for a better security reason.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

** After removing Intel Rapid Storage (iaStor.sys), give it a time and observe the situation.
If the BSODs are continuing, go for the further steps.

Let us know the results.

I uninstalled Intel Rapid Storage and it still Blue Screened again after being idle overnight. The culprit was 7a yet again. As requested I uploaded the MSINFO32. Is there anything else that would be helpful in determining what is causing the blue screens?
