Solved BSOD - While Turning on WiFi - athr.sys

Dear Sir/Madam.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 X86bit on my HP Pavilion DV5 1235EE laptop.


Today i tried to turn on/Enable my Wireless on my laptop. It's a touch button on my HP DV5 1235EE laptop which turns to 'Blue' when enabled and 'organge' when disabled. This button is used to enable both my WiFi and Bluetooth.

My Wireless driver being - Qualcomm Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter

I got a BSOD when i tried to on this, and it's unusuable. The only way to prevent the BSOD is to keep it turned off. This way i'm unable to use both my Bluetooth and Wifi on my laptop.

I got this later on restart (i turned off my wifi this time to prevent BSOD) :

As you seem to already know the problem is the driver for your atheros wifi device.
These drivers sadly can be a major pain to dig up.

I've had luck using these before.

Thank you for the quick response.

I too worry it's a driver issue, cause i have a feeling that earlier windows might have shown an update for this driver and I might have installed it, issue might have started from then.

By the way, can you let me know if you've gone through the BSOD crash dump diagnostics for this BSOD? Does it show any software or application causing this issue?

Also Will I be able to install the Old Driver from the official Product website of HP - Atheros Wireless LAN Driver HP Pavilion dv5-1235ee Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

I worry that if i install it there might be a chance that it might corrupt something, but i don't know. Kindly guide me.

Thanks a lot , i think i solved this issue.

What I did was - I went to device manager - Right clicked on the Atheros Driver properties and rolled back to the previously installed version of the driver. I just restarted my PC and the driver detects and works. There's no BSOD this time

I hope it stays this way. Thank you for spending your precious time with me in solving this.

installing one driver over another in windows 7 shouldn't cause any problems.
Though the problem you already have may persist.

I can't run through the debug info right now I'm not on the right computer for it.
Atheros drivers are a fairly common problem though so I'm fairly sure the debugger data would back up what you already know.

edit : glad to know a simple rollback worked usually you have to go tracking down another driver. If you stop back by please mark this thread solved at the top would you.
