Hi all,

having continuing bsod occuring now 2-3 times a day need to sort it out, here's the background.

recently changed my OS to Windows 7 64 bit from Vista 32 bit (no bsod incident with vista)

my system specs were checked and is compatible with Windows 7 64 bit,the up date was successful.

But i have suscpicions of out dated drivers that are hampering game play specifically Third Age: Total War mod for Kingdoms Total War i tried everything on their troubleshooting list and nothing worked.

i tried an attempt to update my drivers and again i have a suscpicion i did something wrong particularly with my sound card which seems to have aggrevated the bsod.

other incidents;

1. any time i want to download a torrent with utorrent i get bsod.

2. sometimes generally browsing or when idle and screensaver active, i return i get a bsod.

3. downloading patches for game specifically starcraft 2, aftering re-installing after the OS change the large patch file 2 mins in i get a bsod.

thats it i think...

a solution i'm looking for is a fix to the constant bsod, and a way of getting my system back up to date with drivers. Please help!

McAfee is a frequent cause of BSOD-s (specially in the situation you describe). Consider uninstalling it with the McAfee Removal Tool and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials at least to test.
MSE is recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability compared to other antiviruses/internet security software:-
:warn: Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

PS: I notice that you already have MSE & MBAM which is a great combination. + Running two antiviruses would conflict. :: is it bad to run multiple antivirus programs?

Uninstall - 1. Advance System Care 2. Smart Defrag 2 3. Glary utilities; with the free version of Revo uninistaller. Uninstall using Advanced Mode and reboot the desktop/laptop if prompted.
These tools can be a cause of BSOD's. The windows 7 operating system does not require these registry cleaning software. They often tune-down rather than tune-up and can wreck the OS beyond repair. Microsoft have improved Windows 7 significantly and it is much better at organising and optimising itself than its predecessors. Check this, this and this thread for evidence.

If you feel the need to use a registry cleaning or optimisation software, most of us recommend the use of CCleaner but make sure you back up the registry before making letting ccleaner delete anything. You may make use of the great in-built Disk Cleanup and Extended Disk Cleanup if required to do so, regarding de-frag utilities, I recommend yet again the in-built http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11733-disk-defragmenter-open-use.html & Puran Defrag which is much reliable compared to others.

Run the System File Checker. It allows the user to scan for and restore corruptions in Windows system files.

  • 1. Click on the :orb:
    2. Type CMD on Search
    3. Left click and Run as Administrator
    4. Type SFC /scannow
Full tutorial here:

Run Disk Check on your hard disk for file system errors and bad sectors on it:

Free up the start-up, nothing except the antivirus is usually needed.

Make scans with the following:

-Kaspersky TDSSKiller
-ESET online scanner

Check a new version for your BIOS:
Code:
BIOS Version/Date	Dell Inc. A05, 03/01/2008

Post back results. :)

Go for the urgent one.

I've checked the zip, did you get a BSOD again? During or after making the changes to your system?

Yep the dust has been cleared from case! Which is an interesting point since let say i over looked that little scenario of dust on internal system for lets say .... a few years... till performance really got bad! i finally opened it up this year to see like centimetres of dust on everything! no wonder at the time the card was clocking over 100 C! lol so yes dust has been cleared, but i think there might have been some permenant damage ..

and along those line tis why i upgraded my OS since i was looking to get some more RAM card and possibly get a new graphics card.

what would you suggest?

What size is your Power supply? Dell typically uses very low PSU's and that will be the limiting factor on a new graphics card.
