Solved BSODs after Fresh Windows 7 Install (new hard drive)

Hey everyone,

I've the same sort of issues with my computer in the past. I thought to rectify some of these by upgrading my hardware (video card, hard drive, psu) and doing a complete re-format and fresh install of windows. I am still having BSODs

The first BSOD occurred while I tried to overclock my CPU through AMD overdrive (understandable). The second was during downloading battlefield 3 through origin while reformatting my old HDD. The third was while transferring files from my external hard-drive back to my re-formatted HDD, simultaneously downloading battlefield 3 through origin.

I believe Windows is still in the process of updating itself (I did Windows update after each restart, but apparently it has not gotten to SP1 yet).

Attached to this post is a .zip including my dmp files and system report. *Note the system report was gathered while I was re-reformatting my old HDD*.

Below is some information about my system specifications.

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit
CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 260 Dual-Core Processor (3.2 GHz)
Motherboard: ASUS M4A785-M
Memory: 4GB (2x2GB) OCZ Reaper 240-Pin DDR2 (Model OCZ2RPR800C44GK)
Graphics Card: XFX HD-687A-ZDFC Radeon HD 6870 1GB
Sound Card: Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS
Hard Drive:
1.) OCZ Vertex 3 VTX3-25SAT3-60G 2.5" 60GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive [only housing windows 7 64-bit OS, origin + battlefield 3 software, and drivers for my hardware]
2.) Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA
[for media brought in from backup before reformatting this drive]
PSU: Thermaltake Black Widow TR2 RX 850w modular power supply

The RAM kit I'm using is not listed on the QVL for my motherboard, but is similar to other products on it with regard to cas latency, timing, and voltage. Just thought I'd mention this.

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known bsod cause.

Scroll down to the utilities category, then scroll down to the "atk0110 driver for windowsxp/vista/windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).

Download and install it.

Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers to check and make sure that the asacpi.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (notbefore).

How To Find Drivers:

- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

I've gone about updating the drivers. Other than the Asacpi.sys ...every single one was related to my sound card: creative soundblaster audigy 2 zs. I got the newest support driver for windows 7 64 bit and it updated them all to a newer set created in March 2010. It is also the oldest component in my computer... I should have suspected.

The last few that you listed I found as .sys files rather than .dll files. Do I also need to find a .dll file to update?

I just got one more BSOD, and there is one last file called ha20x2k.sys that caused it. Apparently the Creative update hasn't covered this file. It's still from 2007... I can't seem to find anywhere to download it individually. Anyone have tips for a good source?
