BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER bsod

.......it happened to me when I tried to restart my computer.
It just happened once, but it was very weird because everything's been very stable.

I just want to know if I there is something I shoud update/fix/takecare/uninstall in order to not suffer from this type of BSOD in the near future.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

ok, I just had to change from Kernel Memmory Dum to small memory dump.

...but how can I post the DMP of the bugcode_usb_driver BSOD that happened recently??

You can check in event viewer

Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:


Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
Expand Custom Views
Click Administrative Events
Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file here.

I installaed this OS like 20 days ago and only had 3 BSOD's, the last one being BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER today.

But the OS is very stable even though I have all of those errors in Administrative Events.

I would at least run CHKDSK and find out what the first error is about.

hey zigzag3143, I already ran CHKDSK, and it said my volume is clean, (C: partition)

I have read that it is almost impossible not to have errors in Administrative events so I have learn to ignore them.
For example, I use Protools and on their site they say that it is normal to have those errors (the first one) and that it won't affect performance.

The second error used to happen when I had System Restore turned on, I don't use it anymore so those errors dissapeared when I turned it off.

The others I have no idea what they are and have no idea how to procced.

I read that the BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER bsod is related to a windows bug on the SP1 installer, but they corrected it with an update; I checked in updates history and I have that update.

I have not installed motherboard's and video drivers yet.
The video driver is very difficult to install in Home Premium because it fights with the automatic driver installation feature in Windows 7.

I tried it in other OS installations and it was a mess and chaos. Device manager always said it had the correct drivers even though it was its own driver, not the one that I installed. I tried many things and nothing.
So I did not even tried on this new windows installation.

I am very tired of windows installing its own drivers and fighting agains my installations, it happens everytime with usb controllers, audio interfaces, etc.

There is no way to get rid of that in Home Premium because we have no Policy Groups (gpedit.msc) here.

I hope that the 3 BSOD's I have had in 20 days have nothing to do with motherboards or GPU drivers..

1. Click Start Menu
2. Right Click My Computer/Computer
3. Click Manage
4. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
5. Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices
6. Right click the device
7. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
8. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
9. DO NOT restart your computer
10. Install the latest driver for the device.

Alternatively:

1. Login as an adminstrative user.
2. Click Start Menu
3. Click Control Panel
4. Click Hardware and Sound
5. Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
6. Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices
7. Right click the device
8. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)

Just run the executables. They are designed to install the driver software for the device if there is no driver currently installed. The uninstall procedure in my previous post should set up the ideal circumstance for driver installation using the executable.

Which mobo drivers are you intending to install?

I know the video driver is one, and that can be found under display adapters in device manager. That one actually requires a restart, so the best method for it is the following:

1. Download the latest drivers for your display card(s) from the manufacturer
2. Click Start Menu
3. Right Click My Computer/Computer
4. Click Manage
5. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
6. Expand Display adapters
7. Do the following for each adapter (in case you have multiple display cards)
   • Right click the adapter
   • Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
   • Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
8. Restart your computer after uninstalling drivers for all display cards
9. Do not start normal Windows; start in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/69585-safe-mode.html through the http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html screen.

well, I just headed to XFX site and look for my mobo drivers (I have my mobo registered there otherwise I can't acces the drivers), they have this: Windows 7 64-bit Nforce WHQL International - WHQL Package for selected Series 7 and Series 6 chipsets which I downloaded and Windows 7 64-bit Realtek Audio - Realtek High Definition Audio System Software which I don't need because I use external audio interface.

How could I know what the first drivers are intended for??
they don't have a description or anything there.

The first set is the Chipset drivers for your motherboard, and they are very important to install. They should be installed before any other drivers (though if they are not, it is not as big a deal with Windows 7 as it was with its predecessors). If they are not installed at all, the system may not work as expected.

I've read that it is not good to install OVER previous drivers
