Hi Friends,

If one is supposed to build a PC (with Windows 7 64 bit or Windows 10 64 bit edition) for producing commercial graphics designs using the latest versions of CoreDraw and Adobe CS, what type of hardware one should be buying. What processor (Intel only), motherboard, ram capacity, hdd, graphics, card, smps, monitor size etc should be considered based on your personal experience with producing commercial graphics?

Thanks a lot.

You should get 16 GB of RAM, a big hard drive, and a big monitor (27" or bigger). In fact, you should go with dual monitors, with at least one of them being 27" or bigger. In this way, you can have a big monitor for your graphics work, while having a separate monitor for doing everything else (internet, email, etc).

You didn't mention AutoCAD, but I have some experience with that. With AutoCAD, lots of memory helps hugely when you have to regenerate a drawing. I'm sure the same applies to other graphics programs, because graphics is memory intensive.

Something you didn't mention, but which is vitally important: Make sure you have a good backup regimen. Set your graphics programs to do auto backups every few minutes to a different hard drive than where the regular graphics are kept. And back up both of those drives regularly. It takes a long time to do a good graphic; you don't want to have to redo any of them.

I'm not knowledgeable about motherboards, processors, or graphics cards, so I can't help with that stuff.

What are you going to produce vector or bitmap graphics as there is a big difference and what about a graphic tablet?

A smooth ergonomic mouse with 1600 dpi sensitivity or better, would be my priority. A keyboard with programmable macro keys. A large HDD divided with two or three partitions. A Power Supply with good active power factor correction (PFC), perhaps bronze certified or gold certified. 22" IPS monitor or larger. At least 3 times the minimum RAM and a capable graphics card. Id also replace stock coolers and consider a case with a card reader or a printer with a card reader.

Before you even start to specify the hardware you need to specify what you intend to do and what software you are going to use to do it CorelDraw is a good Home user level software, but the pros use Adobe, The CS range was replaced in all practical terms several years ago. Look to use Adobe Creative suite ( monthly lease of around 50$ a month) Check out the minimum specs for hardware on the Adobe Site, Then double it Seriously consider a workstation system with multiple processors 32-64 GB of Ram
Then you need to look at the support infrastructure - The Server, Backup Hardware and software, Input and output devices should include a graphics Tablet or a Monitor with this function built in Output Devices will need to include printers capable of producing the largest planned output size at final required quality
