building new PC, looking for some recommendations on some parts..

hello i am building my first pc, and i need a few parts and figure i would check here on and get everyone's recommendations for the parts i need. i have posted my list of what i have and what i need... thanks...

my build parts list..
Case= RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WBP Black 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case With 500W Power Supply
mother board = Intel DP55KG Extreme Series Desktop Motherboard (P55 ATX Core i7 Core i5 LGA1156)

Memory = Samsung MV-3V2G4 2GB DDR3 SDRAM Desktop Memory Module (1333MHz PC3-10600)

For PSU I like Antec. But I would go with 650W

I hope you plan to install more than just 2GB of RAM

I did not see any disks. I would go for a 60GB SSD for the OS (just got one for $70) and a HDD for the data - 1GB max.

A good CPU is the i5 2500K. That one you can overclock easily.

For DVD drive and card reader I guess any reputable make will do.

thanks yes i plan on getting 8gb of memory .... i will look in SSD and thanks for info on cpu i will look into that one.. and same with power supply...

Why did you buy a socket 1156 MB, and can you return it to get a socket 1155 MB?

For a PSU, don't try to save money. It run your whole computer and can damage it too. I always recommend Corsair, Seasonic or Antec. Also, on the Motherboard. If you get a 2500K and want to overclock, you will need a P67, Z68 or Z77model 1155 motherboard. I recommend going to a site like Newegg and read the reviews of the people who use those items. They will be your best judge.

i can return it but i got a good deal on the board only paid $70 bucks for brand new... could not pass that up....

also i will only be surfing the net. and using it to work with pictures i take. and a few games...

also whats a good PSU then for me to buy that will give me enough power to run this....and wont ruin the motherboard..

also i need a cpu with socket 1156.. been checking around for some decent prices..

Doesn't the case you have picked out come with a power supply? Why would you not use that, or pick a case that doesn't come with a PSU if you don't plan to use it.

i was givin the case for free.. had no power supply....

Your choices will be limited for Socket 1156. www.newegg.com only lists 4 CPUs for that at the moment, and the best one is an I5-650. The motherboard was cheap because the market has moved on.

The power supply will mostly be driven by your choice of graphics card. eVGA recommends:

a 450W PSU rated for at least 24A at +12V. This is the least expensive one that I'd consider:

It has a single 6 pin PCI-E power connector, so it'll support the GTS 250 without adapters.

I would also go with a socket 1155 instead. there are way more options of CPU.

For the PSU, I would also recommend a reliable brand. The cheap-o PSU's are less effecient, and usually don't actively prevent damage from things like power surges.

A good PSU will prevent surges and slumps in incoming electricity from damaging the motherboard and components. The off-brand ones, usually dont have this functionality.

A note not mentioned here is that the total amount of output power diminishes over time by about 10% so plan for headroom.

Also, no one has mentioned cooling. if you purchase a CPU seperately, you will need a Heatsink for it that matches the Socket and CPU.

I agree with WHS on these points as well. I would go with 4GB of ram and if budget allows, an SSD for the operating system.

thanks to everyone with the suggestion and remarks, i know the board and stuff is not top notch but this is my first build and did not wanna buy top of the line stuff just to find out i screw something up.. rather learn on the cheaper side first...

i do have a heat sink i bought it has dual fans for a push pull effect... and i plan on at least getting 8gigs of ram in the system for now...

There's nothing wrong with the motherboard that I know of, other than supporting only the older Socket 1156 CPUs. They're fine too, just harder to find.
