Burning an ISO from an original Win & DVD

I have an original Window 7 Pro DVD with the product key. I want to burn an ISO from it to a USB key so that I can install it on my new build PC. I am using a Samsung XP941 M.2 256GB as my boot drive and the only way to put the Win7 files onto it to boot from is via a bootable USB stick.

I have tried to get the ISO from the Microsoft website but even though I have a fully licensed copy of Windows (Not OEM) when I put the product key in, it tells me that it is not registered for use in English and will not allow me to download it.

So the question is what do I have to do to burn my Win7 Pro DVD to an ISO on a USB stick?

Hi, yes I have looked at that. The problem I have is what do I have to actually do to turn my Win7 DVD into the ISO file. The DVD has a lot of different folders in it. Which one needs to be used for the ISO, or do I try to turn the whole thing into an ISO?

It's really not necessary to create an ISO in order to create a bootable USB thumb drive UNLESS you do not have a DVD drive. Regardless, since you have a physical DVD, you would need to use a DVD drive in order to create the ISO anyway. Creating an ISO is an unnecessary extra step.

If you had downloaded the install DVD as an ISO, then you would need to be able to mount the ISO (mounting an ISO makes it appear as a "virtual" DVD drive with the DVD in it) in order to copy the files from it to the thumb drive.

In simplistic terms, you first need to create a bootable USB thumb drive. Once you do that, you simply copy all the files from the install DVD to the thumb drive and you will be good to go.

Edit: Apparently, you are attempting to use the Rufus tool to create the thumb drive and Rufus will only work with an ISO file so, if that's the case, then you will need to create an ISO. Imgburn that was suggested above is an excellent tool but be careful when you install it since it wants to install additional PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs). Make sure you always select 'Custom' and uncheck the boxes for the additional items.

If this is a new build then you likely have a UEFI BIOS.

In that case it shows how to extract the ISO from DVD and write it to a UEFI bootable flash stick in Step 1 of Clean Reinstall Windows 7.

Then boot the stick as UEFI [flash stick] using BIOS Boot menu key, install to UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums

In addition look over the other steps for Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which assure you'll get and keep a perfect install as long as you stick with those steps, tools and methods.
