Tech-support of a particular cd player I am using recommends I burn all my cds at 8x. WMP unfortunately does not use numbers in burning speeds but the terms slow-medium-fast-fastest. Can anyone please tell me which one is equivalent to 8x? I cannot use my Power2go because 10x is its minimum so I am stuck with WMP.

Thanks in advance for all assistance.

The burner drive's available burn speeds will determine what speeds to burn, not WMP or any other burning program. All that program does is allow you to select an available burn speed.

I have a recording studio and do a lot audio CD burning. I use 8X as my "standard" so the CD's will play in almost all audio CD players. Above 8X and some will not play the CD or will skip.

Almost all SATA CD/DVD burners will only go down to 8X (there is one LG model that will go to 8X but that's all I've found). I have a bank of 5 PATA (IDE) interface drives (USB connected) and they will burn at 8X. I use Nero Burning ROM. The free CDBurnerXP will allow you to select an actual available burning speed if you don't want to buy Nero. Roxio will allow you to select a speed too but I abandoned Roxio due to all the buggy problems they have had over the years.

Thank you very much Fireberd. As you recommended I downloaded cdburnerxp and experimented on one of my discs that would not play. I re-burnt it at 8x and it played perfectly. It seems like my original home recording I had set at "fastest" and it recorded at something like 32x and my player accepts 8x as a maximum which resulted in a lot of unexpected and frustrating behaviour. So now the problem is solved thanks to you. Regards and best wishes..
